Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet Are ‘Signed up and on Board’ for ‘The Holiday’ Sequel

We all have our favorite holiday movies. From The Polar Express and Elf to Home Alone and even Die Hard, there is something out there for everyone. However, there is one festive movie that won the hearts of romantics all across the globe, and it appears it might be about to make a comeback.

The Holiday originally came out in 2006, complete with its star-studded cast. The premise revolves around a house swap between 2 women, in an attempt to escape their own lives at home. Iris (Kate Winslet) switches her English country cottage for a luscious LA pad owned by Amanda (Cameron Diaz). From there, you get the gist as the pair enter their various romantic entanglements on either side of the Atlantic.

The cast is rounded out by other Hollywood stars such as Jack Black and Jude Law. Eli Wallach, Rufus Sewell and Edward Burns also feature.

Upon its original release, it was met with a lukewarm reception from critics. However, over the years, the flick has gained a lot of traction thanks to its popularity on streaming sites, and has finally earned its place as a modern holiday classic. So much so that it seems plans are in the works to tell the story of what happens after the characters fell in love…

Fans of the film are in for a treat, as a source has revealed to The Sun that the movie’s main 4 stars have all signed up for a sequel, seventeen years after the original flick hit theaters.

The source revealed: “The plan is to start rolling on scenes next year, primarily in the U.K. and in Europe, but the main talent are all signed up and on board.

“It’s one of the most successful movies of its kind and still enjoyed every year by millions of fans around the world – it makes perfect sense to revisit those characters and find out what became of their lives after they hooked up.

“It’ll be funny, poignant, and heartwarming – just what everyone wants for Christmas.”

If it comes to fruition, the movie would mark one of Diaz’s first on-screen appearances in almost ten years. She has one movie titled Back in Action where she is starring alongside Dreamgirls actor Jamie Foxx which is currently in production, but has no release date set yet.

The Charlie’s Angels star has opened up in the past about why she took the decision to step back from her acting career and announce her retirement in 2018.

“For me, I just really wanted to make my life manageable by me,” she told comedian Kevin Hart on his talk show Hart to Heart.

“It’s fun to do, I love it. I love acting. You know I can go forever, I literally sometimes feel like I have unlimited energy,” she said.

However, it wasn’t all positive for the fifty-year-old.

She explained: “I looked around and it was just like so many parts of my life that I didn’t have, I wasn’t touching and that I wasn’t managing and I couldn’t really manage it because it was so big.”

She continued to say that she didn’t have “time to figure things out” because she was just “going going going” and felt like she had the “blinders on”.
