Season 2 of Wednesday Confirmed

Wednesday has been renewed for a second season by Netflix, it has been confirmed.

The news comes after rumours that the show might leave the streaming site and head to a competitor.

Netflix suffered a bit last year, as it marked the first time in its history that it has ever lost subscribers.

However, this doesn’t mean it slowed down in terms of smashing records. Stranger Things 4 broke the record for the most-watched English-language show within its first twenty-eight days, with an impressive 1.35 billion hours viewed.

Then, the record for the most-watched English-language series in the space of a week (which had also been set by Stranger Things 4) was broken again in 2022 by Wednesday. Viewers absorbed 341.2 million hours of the show in its release week, topping the previous record by 6 million hours.

The new Addams family show even found itself in the nominations for this year’s Golden Globes.

Not only is it nominated for Best Television Series in the Musical or Comedy categories, but the show’s lead actress has grabbed the attention of the judges too.

Before Jenna Ortega starred in Wednesday, it has to be said that the twenty-year-old actress was pretty unknown. Her prior acting credits included 2021’s The Fallout, as well as the Disney show Stuck in the Middle.

However, her performance in Wednesday really confirmed the young star as one of the best actors of her generation. Not only did she hold her own against the other big-name stars in the show, such as Catherine Zeta-Jones, Christina Ricci and Luis Guzmán, but her deadpan depiction of the classic cartoon character has also landed her a place in the Addams family canon.

Ortega’s performance has been so well received that it has even landed the star her very first Golden Globe nomination, in the Best Television Actress for a Musical or Comedy category.

Looks like Ortega is in good company in her category, however. Selena Gomez is nominated for Only Murders in the Building, Quinta Brunson for her role in Abbott Elementary, Kaley Cuoco for The Flight Attendant and Jean Smart for her performance in Hacks.

In terms of the show’s competition when it comes to Best Television Series, many of the same series are up for the award. This includes Only Murders in the Building, Hacks, Abbott Elementary and The Bear.
