Britney Spears recently announced that she has taken a new name – River Red, and her bizarre post left a lot of fans confused.
Ever since her restrictive conservatorship ended, Britney Spears has been causing a stir with her antics and making headlines across the world.
At first, she was delighting fans with the glimpse of newfound freedom, but it wasn’t long before fans began to grow concerned for the star.
As we know, Spears isn’t a stranger to sharing riddles on her social media page, but the latest has left fans baffled.
The singer took to Instagram to share a cryptic message, seemingly about the planet Mars, where she also made the announcement about her name.
She captioned a photo of the red planet: “A bright one … easy does it !!! Thank you, childhood friend, I found my ball … don’t underestimate the power of purity !!!
“I see right through it all … it has liquid and is wet … it’s playful and has mass !!! I changed my name to River Red !!! Yet the fire is where it illuminates … to stare at it and jump right in with no fear at all !!!! S**t. Now I have to find my FORK!!!”
Britney marked the transition to her new name by altering it on her Instagram account permanently.
While she did turn off comments on her post, fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts as to what could be going on with the star.
Some believe the name could be an alter ego, with one writing: “The way Channel 8 and River Red are basically Britney’s alter egos, much like Mona Lisa.”
The Twitter user seemingly referenced the other time Britney changed her name to ‘Channel 8,’ leaving fans perplexed, with many attempting to figure out the meaning by it.
At the time, one wrote: “Could Channel 8 mean this?” while also sharing a screenshot about the spiritual meaning behind the number.
And her latest post has once again sparked a debate online as to why she has changed her name for the second time.
However, another Twitter user thinks they’ve solved her latest riddle…
They wrote: “Oh this is amazing!! Lol. Britney has changed her name to ‘River Red’ on Instagram and I’m thinking ‘wtf’ so I decided I’m gonna try and solve one of her riddles.
“’River Red’ is a film released in 1998 (the year of her debut) and it’s about… well…”
Alongside the comment, they also shared a screenshot of Britney’s Instagram page, next to the synopsis of the movie River Red, which she seemingly based her new name off of.
The synopsis reads: “Dave, a young man, kills his alcoholic father to end the cycle of violence in the house. But when his little brother Tom confesses to the murder and goes to jail, Dave turns to petty crime to pay the bills.”
Could this be the singer’s way of hinting at the past abuse she claims to have suffered at the hands of her father, Jamie Spears?
