Seth Rogen is no stranger to speaking his mind, but his latest comments have raised eyebrows for many fans.

This is because the forty-year-old has admitted that he doesn’t think anyone has made a good high school movie since his own film, Superbad.

He made the remarks in conversation with People, while discussing how his bond with his co-star from The Fablemans, Gabriel LaBelle, made him realise that the 2007 movie was seeing a resurgence.

“What’s crazy is that Gabe LaBelle is like, nineteen years old and his and his friends’ favorite movie is Superbad,” Rogen shared.

He continued: “So it never changed for some reason. No one’s made a good high school movie since then.”

To be fair, Superbad is a total classic. Starring Michael Cera and Jonah Hill, the flick resonated with fans across the globe thanks to its hilariously relatable nostalgic values.

However, some might contest Rogen’s opinion that there has been no “good” high school movies since then. To give you an idea of the kind of flicks that came out in the post-Superbad era, let’s take a look at a few.

Twilight came out in 2008 and is a quintessential teen movie for many people, although whether it could be classed as “good” is a somewhat contentious issue.

Another classic high school comedy, Easy A, starring Emma Stone was released in 2010, and Olivia Wilde’s lauded Booksmart came out in 2019. Greta Gerwig’s Oscar nominated high school movie Lady Bird came out in 2017.

Love, Simon is another well-loved high school flick that was released in 2018, as is one of Netflix’s latest releases, titled Do Revenge.

However, all of these do fail to beat out Superbad‘s IMDb score of 7.6, so although it is impossible to deduct whether these films are any good, Rogen might be happy to know that at least that internet site doesn’t think there are any better!

It comes after the star shared that he is not planning to have kids anytime soon or, well, anytime at all! Rogen admitted that parenthood “does not sound fun”, and so he plans to steer clear.

Rogen made the remarks last year while in conversation with Howard Stern (a father of 3, in case you were wondering). Stern told Rogen that he was “glad” Rogen didn’t have kids, because the actor is “into so many things and so many projects” that he didn’t think he could dedicate the time children need.

The actor avidly agreed: “I wouldn’t be able to do all this work that I like,” he said as one of his justifications for a childless life.

He continued: “People are always like — it’s something I think I was uncomfortable answering this before — but they were like, ‘How do you do so much?’ The answer is I don’t have kids.

“Like, if people are like, ‘How do you do pottery and write a book and make all these movies and TV shows?’ It’s that I don’t have kids. I have nothing else to do.”

Stern concurred, saying that Rogen’s listed hobbies “require time and self-involvement”, and so “why put a kid through that if you don’t have time” for them.
