Deleted Harry Potter Scene Revealing Dudley’s True Nature Makes Fans Cry

A deleted scene in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, has left fans in floods of tears after it was recently uploaded to the internet.

The scene is a particularly moving moment between Harry and his cousin Dudley, and people feel like it should have been kept in the film to show his character development.

As the annoying, entitled cousin of the famous wizard, Dudley (Harry Melling) didn’t make for a very lovable character in the fantasy series.

However, real fans will be aware that their relationship was far more nuanced; perhaps if the aforementioned sequence had been left in, this would have been more apparent.

As those that have watched the films will know, Privet Drive only appears briefly in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 as Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) bids the Dursley’s a final farewell.

Due to the threat posed by Lord Voldemort and the Death Eaters, Vernon, Petunia, and Dudley were compelled to leave their house for their own protection.

Although their farewell isn’t seen in the film’s edited version, the brief but heartwarming conversation between the cousins provides us with a bit more understanding of their relationship.

In the scene, we see Vernon rush his family into the car as Harry walks downstairs and is greeted by his aunt, who is devastated about having to move from their family home.

After Harry urges her that it isn’t safe for them there anymore, she replies: “Do you think I don’t know what they’re capable of?

“You didn’t just lose a mother that night in Godric’s Hollow, you know. I lost my sister.”

After Petunia gets into the car, Harry can be seen standing on the doorstep of the house, and after Vernon gives a brief and unbothered farewell to his nephew, Dudley shocks with his sentimental goodbye.

Dudley says, “I don’t understand, isn’t he coming with us?” After which Vernon says Harry doesn’t want to, to which Harry agrees, adding: “I’m just a waste of space, isn’t that right Vernon?”

Clearly bothered by his comment, Dudley approaches Harry despite Vernon telling him to get in the car.

He goes to shake Harry’s hand, telling him: “I don’t think you’re a waste of space.”

After watching the moving moment between the two characters, one social media user wrote: “It was the ONLY moment he offered a kind word to Harry it was pretty poignant.”

While another commented: “I cry every time Dudley says that, dammit.”

“I would have cried if that was actually in the movie,” said a third.

Now, It’s no secret that Harry Potter gained a colossal fan base since the first book came out way back in 1997, and while the films have been a huge part of helping hook audiences across the globe, it was the book that first sparked imaginations.

But there are a lot of things that J.K. Rowling regrets about Harry Potter…

Firstly, we all knew Hermione was meant to end up with Harry… I mean, Ron, seriously?

Rowling addressed this in an interview with The Sunday Times, explaining: “I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfilment. That’s how it was conceived, really.

“For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron.”

Then there’s the brutal death of Fred Weasley… we still haven’t recovered.

In 2015 Rowling Tweeted her long overdue apology to fans, writing: “Today I would just like to say: I’m really sorry about Fred. *Bows head in acceptance of your reasonable ire.*”

We think the biggest mistake was cutting that scene, what do you think?
