While Netflix’s Wednesday has featured a lot of characters from beloved past Addams Family shows, there’s one character we won’t see anytime soon…
And that’s Pubert, Wednesday’s baby brother from The Addams Family Values way back in 1993.
This has been highlighted following the news that the show might leave Netflix and head to a competitor.
Netflix suffered a bit last year, as it marked the first time in its history that it has ever lost subscribers.
However, this doesn’t mean it slowed down in terms of smashing records. Stranger Things 4 broke the record for the most-watched English-language show within its first twenty-eight days, with an impressive 1.35 billion hours viewed.
Then, the record for the most-watched English-language series in the space of a week (which had also been set by Stranger Things 4) was broken again in 2022 by Wednesday. Viewers absorbed 341.2 million hours of the show in its release week, topping the previous record by 6 million hours.
The new Addams family show even found itself in the nominations for this year’s Golden Globes.
Not only was it nominated for Best Television Series in the Musical or Comedy categories, but the show’s lead actress grabbed the attention of the judges too.
Before Jenna Ortega starred in Wednesday, it has to be said that the twenty-year-old was pretty unknown. Her prior acting credits included 2021’s The Fallout, as well as the Disney show Stuck in the Middle.
However, her performance in Wednesday really confirmed the young star as one of the best actors of her generation. Not only did she hold her own against the other big-name stars in the show, such as Catherine Zeta-Jones, Christina Ricci and Luis Guzmán, but her deadpan depiction of the classic cartoon character has also landed her a place in the Addams family canon.
But we have to say, the other characters are just as good, and the way Tim Burton brings them to life in a modern day interpretation is fantastic.
Those that have watched the show will know that we were introduced to some classic characters aside from the main ones, such as Cousin Itt and Grandmama, but fans of The Addams Family Values will know of one more character that we won’t be introduced to in any upcoming Wednesday seasons…
Pubert, the baby of the family.
Pubert was never in the original comic strip or the first 1960s TV series, so Burton isn’t likely to bring him into this spin-off.
This is quite a shame because a moustache-wielding toddler sounds like a perfect addition to the show.
But it doesn’t look like fans are all that bothered, one wrote: “This show is centred on Wednesday and her school years not on the family as much so many of the characters will not be seen unless required for a scene if at all. Thing is on it as he is with Wednesday. Uncle Fester was on for a scene. Lurch was on for a scene. The bother and parents were on for scenes but mostly it’s about Wednesday.”
While another said: “The baby wasn’t a main or famous character, but Wednesday always tried her best to kill him and failed miserably. I thought it was amusing.”
