Netflix Disaster Movie Mirrors ‘Almost Exactly’ What Is Going On In The Place It Was Filmed

Late last year, White Noise, starring A-lister Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig, was made available on Netflix.

The movie follows the mundane goings-on of a family in America before their lives are flipped upside down by a sudden airborne toxic event.

The synopsis reads: “At once hilarious and horrifying, lyrical and absurd, ordinary and apocalyptic, White Noise dramatises a contemporary American family’s attempts to deal with the mundane conflicts of everyday life while grappling with the universal mysteries of love, death, and the possibility of happiness in an uncertain world.

“Based on the book by Don DeLillo, written for the screen and directed by Noah Baumbach, produced by Noah Baumbach (p.g.a) and David Heyman (p.g.a.). Produced by Uri Singer.”

The movie has had huge success on the streaming site since it came out, but it has recently gained even more viewership on the platform since some say it predicted a tragedy that took place at the start of the month. And shockingly, the film is set in the same place it happened in real life.

In the nearby village of East Palestine, a fifty-car train derailed on February 3, spilling chemicals such vinyl chloride, butyl acrylate, ethylhexyl acrylate, and ethylene glycol monobutyl ether into the surrounding area.

Due to health concerns from the leak, more than 2,000 locals were instructed to leave surrounding buildings to ensure their safety.

And uncanny similarities between the recent movie and the chemical accident that occurred in Ohio earlier this month have been noted by social media users.

One Twitter user wrote: “After a train derails, Ohioans are now living the plot of the movie they helped make.”

“I just think it’s so wild that White Noise – a movie that includes a train derailing IN OHIO, causing a Toxic cloud to force people to evacuate came out in August [2022] and then seven months later, an actual train derails in Ohio causing a toxic cloud to force people to evacuate,” a second said.

“There was a movie just out called ‘White Noise‘ filmed in northern Ohio and some of the extras who were in it pretending to evacuate in the film now just had to evacuate in real life. Same identical scenario,” a third wrote.

Another added: “Wait a minute. They just made a movie that I saw and I barely watch films. It’s called White Noise and it’s exactly what happened in East Palestine Ohio. It was just filmed in Ohio and is identical except it happened just before real life. Terrifying.”

Ben Ratner, an East Palestine native and shockingly also an extra in White Noise, discussed the odd connections in an interview with People.

“Talk about art imitating life,” he said. “This is such a scary situation. And you can just about drive yourself crazy thinking about how uncanny the similarities are between what’s happening now and in that movie.”

What do you make of the shocking turn of events, could the film really be a frightening prediction or just an eerie coincidence?
