Selena Gomez Quits Social Media After She Defends Taylor Swift From Hailey Bieber

Selena Gomez is reportedly taking some time away from social media following intense backlash for her comments on a resurfaced video of Hailey Bieber.

Selena Gomez began her acting career in 2002 as a child on the PBS children’s TV series Barney & Friends.

Gomez subsequently flourished as a young Disney channel star, leading productions such as Wizards of Waverley Place and Princess Protection Program.

And since then, the actress has gone on to release music for Disney projects, including singing the theme song for Wizards of Waverly Place.

But it wasn’t long before the actress went on to make a name for herself away from children’s entertainment.

Notable roles of hers include Spring Breakers, and more recently the TV series Only Murders in the Building.

The actress-turned-singer began bagging heaps of popularity, and in 2017 she sold over 7 million albums and twenty-two million singles worldwide.

Then in 2020, Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world, proving she’s unstoppable in every way.

She’s come a very long way from where she started, and there’s one person that she’s had to keep her grounded along the way, and that’s fellow musician and proclaimed best friend, Taylor Swift.

The pair have been close friends since 2008 when they were both teen idols dating 2 separate Jonas Brothers.

Not long after, Selena began dating Justin Bieber, with whom she had a long-running on-and-off relationship before he later married Hailey in 2018.

Both Selena and Hailey have denied having a tense relationship despite Selena’s followers’ constant trolling of Hailey on social media.

However, things seem to have gotten a little tense recently as an old video of Hailey mocking Taylor Swift resurfaced online.

Early on Thursday, a video was shared to TikTok, showing Method Man and Hailey taking aim at Taylor’s songs.

Method Man joked about a “rap battle full of the meanest lyrics about a celebrity since Taylor Swift’s last album,” causing Hailey to imitate making herself sick.

In the video, the TikToker wrote: “This is REAL Hailey ‘Bieber,’” calling her a “bully” and a “mean girl.”

And it wasn’t long before Selena herself jumped in the comments, writing: “Sorry, my best friend is and continues to be one of the best in the game.”

Her comment received backlash online, and subsequently, Selena announced she was taking some time away from social media.

One commenter wrote: “She’s insecure, honestly.”

While another said: “Definition of daddy’s money.”

“Hailey gotta keep an eye out for Seleneer,” a third added.

The star said in a Live shortly after posting her comment: “I’m gonna be taking a second from social media cause this is a little silly and I’m 30. I’m too old for this.

“But I love you guys so much and I will see you guys sooner than later. I’m just going to have to take a break from everything.”

Selena continued by deactivating her TikTok account, however, her Instagram account is still up, though.

What do you make of the drama?
