Katy Perry Brought To Tears By School Shooting Survivor’s American Idol Audition

Katy Perry was brought to tears during a recent episode of American Idol after one contestant revealed their heartbreaking backstory.

Trey Louis introduced himself as a twenty-one-year-old mattress salesman from Texas. For his audition, he sang a track called ‘Stone’, which was first released in 2016 by Whiskey Myers.

However, what really caught the judges’ attention was his tragic experience during a school shooting in Santa Fe back in 2018.

“I’m from Santa Fe, Texas. In May 2018, a gunman walked into my school,” he shared, per the Huffington Post.

“I was in Art Room 1. He shot up Art Room 2 before he made his way to Art Room 1. I lost a lot of friends. Eight students were killed. Two teachers were killed. It’s just really been negative. Santa Fe’s had a bad rep since 2018.”

Obviously, all of the judges were touched by this tale, but it was Katy Perry’s reaction that got everyone talking.

“Our country has f**king failed us! This is not OK,” she said.

“You should be singing here because you love music, not because you had to go through that f**king bulls**t. You don’t have to lose eight friends. I hope that you remind people that we have to change. Because I’m scared, too.”

Fellow judge Lionel Richie added: “We have tolerated this for so long. Too long. It’s become a norm.”

“We’ve got to change. And I hope you can just lead,” Perry continued.

The 3 judges then all agreed that Louis was more than worthy of getting through to the next round, and so he received 3 yes votes and, as Richie put it, they will all see him in Hollywood.
