“It’s official,” Alison Hammond confirmed, as she formally announced her next significant TV job.

When the Great British Bake Off returns to television screens later this year, the presenter has revealed that she will serve as the new co-host.

After Matt Lucas’ departure, it was announced on Thursday night (March 16) that the This Morning star had won the position.

While calling his time on the show a “wonderful experience,” Lucas announced his resignation from the well-liked Channel 4 programme in December, claiming that he was doing so because he could no longer commit to the schedule of the show with his other endeavours.

The news comes three years after she made an appearance on a celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer episode. Alison will now co-host the programme alongside Noel Fielding and join judges Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith in the tent.

The 48-year-old posted a video to Instagram in which she sort of interviewed herself to announce her new TV role. Alison filmed herself along with a cake that resembled the interior of the tent where the judges handed their judgements on the bakers’ creations. Lovely miniatures of Paul and Prue and the show’s newest hosts were also included.

The This Morning anchor could be heard stating behind the camera, “Yes, it’s breaking news, Alison Hammond is joining the team of the Great British Bake Off,” before focusing on her own icing-covered figure and requesting, “Alison, have you got any comments whatsoever?”

After that, Alison declared herself “absolutely thrilled” and stated she would “soon” meet the new group of bakers. she continued: “I’m so excited. As you can see my colleagues are absolutely speechless,” as she gestured toward the other figures. “Just speechless. We’re just so very happy and we can’t wait to get started.”

She once again confirmed the exciting news in the caption, writing: “It’s OFFICIAL!!! It’s happening The Great British Bake off ! Let’s have it ! The cake that is [crying laughing emoji]#GBBO 2023 @britishbakeoff @noel_fielding @prueleith @channel4 @paul.hollywood.”

After hearing the news, dozens of fans took to the comment section to congratulate the star. Prue was the first of Hammond’s new co-stars to react, posting this message: “Huge congratulations Alison, you will be magnificent and I can’t wait for your infectious laugh to be ringing through the tent.”

Noel Fielding then added: “Congratulations and Welcome to the tent lovely !! We are gonna have an absolute blast together. I can’t wait. I’m buzzing. Two naughty kids together 🙂 x x x.x The bakers will love you.”

While ITV’s Lorraine Kelly said: “Big congrats to the force of nature that is our @AlisonHammond – she will be fabulous on Bake Off #GBBO @BritishBakeOff.”

A previous baker also shared their support, writing: “How super exciting is that. Congrats. I so want to go back in the tent now, to experience your presence and chemistry with Noel and Paul and Prue.”

We can’t wait to see what she brings to the table in the next series, it’s bound to be entertaining!
