Despite its enormous popularity, Freddie Prinze Jr. has admitted that Scooby Doo is one of just 2 movies he regrets starring in throughout his career.

The live action Scooby Doo was arguably one of the best childhood films to come out, and it is still loved by so many, despite it being over a decade since it hit screens.

But not everyone loved the film…

While he had the opportunity to portray the famous Fred Jones, the actor has admitted that his time on the 2002 family movie “wasn’t the best.”

And despite the fact that Prinze got to work with his future wife, Sarah Michelle Gellar, he claims he would never want to take on the role again.

According to reports, Prinze detested the project, which was initially presented to him as an R-rated movie.

The script underwent a significant revision because Warner Brothers Studios were not happy with James Gunn’s desire for a darker version of the movie.

In a recent tweet, the filmmaker revealed: “The first Scooby-Doo was originally intended (by me, the producers & the director, Raja Gosnell) to be PG-13, but we never got a PG-13 rating. The first rating from the MPAA was R, & then a bunch of stuff was changed, & that cut ended up being rated PG.”

Talking out about the film in an interview with Too Fab, he shared why he felt like he had a bad experience, saying that the studio was not honest with him about the changes.

“There was too much bait and switch on the first one, the studio was not honest with me in any way, shape or form,” he told the outlet, adding: “I’ve been on two jobs where I had regret doing it and Scooby was one of them.”

The actor said that it left him with a sour taste in his mouth and that if he were asked to return for a third film, he would turn it down.

“It wouldn’t be something I would do. I have zero interest … It wouldn’t be for me” he continued, saying: “I’m only gonna work with people I love and respect, and who love and respect me.”

After hearing what he had to say, many fans of the films took to social media to share their thoughts, with one writing: “bet he dont regret the money he made tho, pretty sure it was the mosr he made for any movie.”

While another commented: “Well … It’s the only reason 99% of people know him. Very few people have seen him in anything else.”

“Guess no one has watched I Know What You Did Last Summer or Shes All That, there the only movies apart from Scooby Doo ones I know of,” a third said.

A fourth questioned: “So what if Matthew wanted to get the OG crew together for a real R rated Scooby-Doo? That would be everything!”

Another added: “He always complaining about something that others would give their right arm for the opportunity. He even complained about being in 24 season 8 smh.”

What do you think of his comments?
