The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die Is Out On Netflix Today

Fans of The Last Kingdom are in for a treat, because the movie The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings is out on Netflix today.

The Last Kingdom is a television series based on books written by Bernard Cornwell. So there’s a lot of fighting and bloodshed, It’s safe to say we were in for a wild ride from the very first episode. 

For those of you that haven’t watched the series, picture this scene. England in the ninth century during the Anglo-Saxon period. The country is divided into separate kingdoms, with warriors constantly fighting over land. 

Gradually, the lands owned by the Anglo-Saxons are attacked and eventually taken over by the Viking Danes, all except for The Kingdom of Wessex, which serves as the last powerful stronghold against the Danes. 

Sounds good already, right? It gets better. It’s important to mention that the actual series is shot in rural Hungary, so the mountains, lakes and forests all play an important role in setting an accurate scene, and the visuals of the set are outstanding. 

It was an instant hit when it came out, and the show has done so well that it has lasted for a total of 5 seasons, with the final season airing on 9 March 2022.

And it seems that the majority of viewers are saying it’s better than Game of Thrones

One admirer posted about the historical drama while discussing it on Twitter, writing: “Extremely captivating from its soundtrack to its staging in battle through history, everything, in general, is transmitted in an impressive way. This season has been really moving and for me, it is one of the best series in history. Masterpiece 10/10.”

While another said: “Recently finished watching The Last Kingdom. This show seriously doesn’t get enough attention. It’s one of the most consistently well-written shows I’ve seen, even with the low budget of S1 does the writing shine, and continues to improve over time. Highly recommended.”

“The Last Kingdom is my favourite Netflix show. Its series finale far surpassed Game of Thrones finale!” a third wrote.

A fourth commented: “Well better than Game Of Thrones. Don’t think there is a bad episode let alone a bad season.”

Someone else gushed: “What a show. Almost had me in tears, the last scene of the final episode. Anyone who hasn’t watched this show is genuinely missing out. 10/10 from me.”

Following the conclusion of the series, a sequel movie titled Seven Kings Must Die was announced by Netflix. 

Alexander Dreymon, who plays the character of Uhtred of Bebbanburg, confirmed the news on Instagram, writing: “That’s a wrap on The Last Kingdom, on Seven Kings Must Die, and on Uhtred, son of Uhtred. 

“As you can tell, I’m slightly out of it, exhausted and overwhelmed.

“I feel so lucky that I got to live part-time in Uhtred’s skin for so many years. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all.”

It hits Netflix today, April 14.
