Drake is one of modern music’s biggest stars. However, what lots of fans don’t know is that the ‘Hotline Bling’ singer has a son who he kept secret for many years.
The story of his son begins way back in 2017, when rumours first began swirling that the rapper had a son, after his mother, artist and former adult star Sophie Brussaux shared the text messages where Drake allegedly asked her to terminate the pregnancy.
Per Vanity Fair, the hip hop artist’s team put out this statement in response to Brussaux’s allegations: “This woman has a very questionable background. She has admitted to having multiple relationships.
“We understand she may have problems getting into the United States. She’s one of many women claiming he got them pregnant. If it is in fact Drake’s child, which he does not believe, he would do the right thing by the child.”
Photos of the couple together in Amsterdam then emerged from January earlier that year, which further fuelled the rumours that Brussaux was in fact pregnant with Drake’s child.
The Sun reported that she gave birth in October of 2017 to a baby boy named Adonis, but it wouldn’t be for almost another year that Drake would acknowledge him.
The media began to understand the full story when fellow rapper Pusha T released a song titled ‘The Story Of Adidon’, which showed more of the full picture.
Then, finally, with the release of his fifth studio album Scorpion in June 2018, Drake publicly addressed the situation for the first time.
In lyrics from the track ‘Emotionless’ from the album, he said: “I wasn’t hiding my kid from the world/I was hiding the world from my kid.”
Drake has since opened up further about his son, telling Rap Radar in 2019: “To be honest with you, I did a DNA test for my son and it came back to us and it said the DNA test got ruined in transit and they couldn’t be 100 percent sure that that was my son or not.”
He has also spoken about his relationship with Adonis’ mother: “I am a single father learning to communicate with a woman who, we’ve had our moments.”
He added: “I don’t ever want the world to be angry at his mother. We have found ourselves in a situation and we are both equally responsible…No matter what happens, I have unconditional love for the mother of my child because I want him to love his mother and I have to project that energy.”
Fast-forward to the present day, and the thirty-six-year-old Canadian native is a lot more open about his son.
Aside from Adonis making his first feature on Drake’s Instagram page, he can also be spotted often attending Toronte Raptors basketball games alongside his father.
