Netflix viewers have admitted being ‘scared for their lives’ after watching a horror series on Netflix.
Marianne first debuted on the streaming service back in 2019, and the impact it has had on viewers is huge.
The show received stellar reviews, with an average score of ninety-four percent on Rotten Tomatoes. However, unfortunately it was not renewed for a second season, as a result of it not achieving a high enough viewership to be justified.
The show’s creator Sam Bodin revealed to Bloody Disgusting that he actually had an idea for more than one season of the show.
“At the time, I really wanted to do three seasons. The story in my head takes three seasons, three acts for me. Three big chapters,” he said, via JOE.
Unfortunately, these extra seasons never came to fruition. However, viewers are just now rediscovering the French language show, and have been absolutely terrified by its creepy tale.
The story follows Emma, a writer of horror stories herself, who returns to her hometown and discovers that an evil spirit which haunted her dreams fifteen years ago has now traversed into causing troubles in the real world.
Netflix’s own synopsis of the show reads: “When a horror novelist takes a break from writing, she discovers the demon from her book exists in the real world. This malevolent spirit named Marianne draws her home and insists she continues writing… or else.”
Despite the show debuting almost 3 years ago now, viewers are still finding it as horrifying as ever.
One said: “Horror fans: I’m definitely late… but, I just watched Marianne on Netflix and it was GOOD! Some parts were a little dorky but the series provided some good scary moments. It’s worth checking out the first few eps to see if you like it.”
Another wrote: “Marianne on Netflix is so freaking scary. Like I have to take Tinkerbell to the bathroom with me scary. For reals.”
While a third said: “Two episodes in and I have to say that French horror series Marianne (on Netflix) is one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen. Skin-crawling horror masterclass.”
