During an interview on the “Goop” podcast hosted by Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson made an unexpected comment on her ex-husband Ryan Reynolds and their previous relationship.
Johansson, who is best known for her performance in movies such as Lost in Translation and Black Widow replied, “Three times,” when asked how many times she had been married.
Reynolds was then brought up by Paltrow, to which Johansson said, “We weren’t married for very long.”
Paltrow then shared her admiration for Reynolds and how he is well liked in her family, saying, “We love a good Ryan Reynolds in our house.” Johansson replied, “He’s a good guy.”
The actress was wed to Reynolds, best known for his work in Deadpool from 2008 to 2010, and their divorce was finalised in July 2011.
Johansson and Reynolds don’t often talk about their former relationship in public, although she did so in a 2019 Vanity Fair feature when she reflected on her marriage to Reynolds at the age of 23.
“I mean, the first time I got married I was 23 years old,” she said. “I didn’t really have an understanding of marriage. Maybe I kind of romanticized it, I think, in a way.”
Johansson wed journalist Romain Dauriac in 2014 after divorcing Reynolds. But their marriage also sadly came to an end. However, despite their 2017 divorce, they are still co-parenting Rose, their 8-year-old daughter.
Then, later in 2017, Johansson started dating “Saturday Night Live” comic Colin Jost. Just two years later, in 2019, they got engaged at Johansson’s house in Palisades, New York. They exchanged vows in a private ceremony, then in 2021 they welcomed their son, Cosmo.
In contrast, Reynolds began dating “Gossip Girl” alum Blake Lively in 2011, and the pair wed in a ceremony conducted at a South Carolina plantation the following year. They received criticism for the venue selection and later issued an apology.
James, Inez, Betty, and a recent newborn child whose name has not yet been made public, are the four children that Reynolds and Lively share together.
Reynolds received a pleasant recent statement from Johansson despite their previous romance, calling him a “good guy.”
Reynolds and Johansson have obviously moved on with their lives and discovered happiness in their subsequent partnerships and families.
After hearing Johansson’s recent comments, some fans have shared their thoughts on their past relationship, with one writing: “Scarlett Johansson is married?? She has been married THREE TIMES?? SHE WAS MARRIED TO RYAN REYNOLDS??? This rock I’m living under, sure is big.”
While another said: “I love how she says she knows the secret of longevity in marriage, bahahahaha okaaaay then. When she’s had a 47 year marriage like my parents then she can give advice about longevity.”
“Oh my, an interview with nut case Gwyneth Paltrow from one nut case to another. Who cares, millions of us are divorced. We just move on,” a third said.
Another added: “NEWS FLASH I was married 3 times but I decided not to try to outdo Elizabeth Taylor’s record of 7 times as I don’t feel the need to be famous.”
