Hollywood legend Robert De Niro has become a father for the seventh time at the age of seventy-nine years old, and now he has shared the very first photo of the newborn, and revealed their name.
The star announced the news of his newborn in a recent interview, revealing that he had ‘just had a baby’.
Now, De Niro is a legend of American cinema, working as an actor producer, and director in his time.
Born in 1943 in New York City, De Niro began his acting career in the 1960s, appearing in various films and stage productions.
He gained critical acclaim for his role in the 1973 film Mean Streets and went on to star in several iconic movies, including Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Raging Bull and The Godfather Part II. De Niro even won 2 Academy Awards for his role in these last 2 listed movies.
It’s no surprise really that he is widely regarded as one of the greatest actors of all time with such fantastic films under his belt. However, he is by no means slowing down, and continues to inspire generations of actors with his performances.
More recently, De Niro’s work has included roles in movies such as The Irishman, War With Grandpa and Amsterdam.
Outside of his professional life, De Niro also shows no sign of slowing down! In fact, the New York native has just welcomed his seventh child, as he revealed in an interview with ET Canada.
In the interview, the star opened up about parenthood while discussing his latest movie, About My Father. Interviewer Brittnee Blair started a question by saying: “I know you have six kids.”
“Seven, actually,” De Niro corrected her. “I just had a baby,” he added.
“I mean, there’s no way around it with kids. I don’t like to have to lay down the law and stuff like that. But, [sometimes] you just have no choice,” he explained in his approach to fatherhood.
“And any parent, I think, would say the same thing. You always want to do the right thing by the children and give them the benefit of the doubt but sometimes you can’t.”
De Niro confirmed that the mother of the newborn is indeed Tiffany Chen, who he has been linked to since 2021.
The pair have been spotted vacationing and eating out together, as per People. The pair worked together in the past, with both having a role in the 2015 movie The Intern, where Chen played a Tai Chi instructor.
Outside of her movie work, Chen is best known for being an acclaimed martial arts professional, having won numerous gold medals and world titles.
In an interview with Gayle King from CBS Mornings, De Niro revealed more details about their new little one.
He revealed the newborn’s name to be Gia Virgina Chen-De Niro, and that she was born on April 6, weighing in at 8 pounds and 6 ounces. He added that she was “planned” and that both him and Chen “wanted this baby.”
He went on to give viewers the first glimpse of the gorgeous little girl, sharing a picture with the outlet. King added that both De Niro and Chen are ‘over the moon’ with their new arrival.
Prior to his relationship with Chen, De Niro had two children with his first wife Diahnne Abbott, Drena, fifty-one, and son Raphael, forty-six.
In 1995, the star then welcomed twin sons Julian and Aaron, twenty-seven, with his girlfriend at the time, Toukie Smith.
De Niro’s previously youngest kids are with his ex-wife Grace Hightower, with whom he shares son Elliot, twenty-five, and daughter Helen Grace, eleven.
