Tom Hanks Is Upset Fans Ignore One Of His Most ‘Important’ Films

Tom Hanks has been the face of Hollywood for decades. His impressive acting career has seen him star in some of the biggest films of all time, from romantic comedies to science fiction epics. He’s won countless awards and earned global fame for his performances, cementing his place as one of the most iconic actors in history.

Despite having dozens of popular films in his repertoire, there’s one movie he’s particularly proud of, but fans never really mention it.

And it seems to be getting to him.

Hanks has appeared in some of our favorite movies over the years. He rocketed to stardom through his roles in various successful romantic comedies, like Splash (1984), The Money Pit (1986), Big (1988), and A League of Their Own (1992). His performances were highly acclaimed by the media.

He made history by winning Best Actor at the Academy Awards consecutively for his roles in Philadelphia (1993) and Forrest Gump (1994). His portrayal of a gay lawyer fighting AIDS in Philadelphia and the iconic title character of Forrest Gump are considered some of his best performances.

However, there’s one movie from his early career that Hanks feels should be talked about more.

According to the actor, The 2002 gangster movie Road to Perdition features one of his greatest performances. Despite receiving mostly positive reviews from critics, this underrated gem of a movie often goes unnoticed by casual viewers.

Talking on the ReelBlend podcast about the film, he said: “For one reason or another, no one references Road to Perdition, and that was an incredibly important movie for me to go through.

“It was shot by Conrad Hall, and you have me in it, ‘Don Moustache’ with a hat on it, but you also have 2 guys who turned out to be 2 of the biggest motion picture presences in the history of the industry with Jude Law and [Daniel] Craig,” he continued. Adding: “And I killed both of them.”

Hanks’ performance as Michael Sullivan, a mob enforcer struggling to protect his son from the consequences of his violent lifestyle, is one of his greatest onscreen performances that deserves more recognition.

Hanks concluded: “People always say, ‘What movies will they be talking about years from now?’

“As a guy who watches Turner Classic Movies a lot, the more obscure and unknown a movie from 1940s or 1950s the better, because I have no preconceived notions about it; I don’t know anything about it.

“When you watch those movies and it’s crackerjack and it’s incredibly moving, all I can think of is, ‘I’m so glad this movie lasts forever, so I got a chance to revisit it now.’ That might be the case with Road to Perdition.”

Although not many fans talk about Road to Perdition, those that have seen it gave it rave reviews.

One Twitter user wrote: “Road to perdition is a god tier movie.”

While another commented: “I’ve watched it over 100 times but Road to Perdition is one of the all-time greats.”
