Tom Holland is a household name these days, but what many people don’t realise is that the twenty-seven-year-old actually has a famous father too!
Now, Holland’s rise to fame began when he was cast as the web-slinging superhero, Spider-Man, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Aged just nineteen at the time, he was the youngest actor to ever be cast in the role.
Prior to this, Holland had made appearances in a few smaller-budget films and theatre productions. However, his portrayal of Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War and subsequent solo films, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, catapulted him to global stardom.
However, it turns out that fame has never been too far away from Tom, as his own father Dominic Holland is a well known comedian and actor.
Dominic has even written a book about his son’s rise to fame overtaking his own, called Eclipsed.
LADBible reports the bio as reading: “How does a kid called Tom Holland, who never had a speaking part in a school play find himself playing Marvel’s Peter Parker?
“Written by a dad who as a professional comedian took his own shot at showbiz stardom and called Eclipsed because his carefully honed plans didn’t work out so well.”
Dominic’s career began in 1991, when he first started performing stand-up comedy. He went on to support Eddie Izzard’s tour 2 years later, and by 1996 his own show was nominated for the prestigious Perrier Award at Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
He later went on to appear on Harry Hill’s Lafter Hours, as well as shows such as Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Have I Got News For You.
Talking on Jay Shetty’s podcast, Tom discussed what it was like to have a comedian for a dad.
“Because our dad’s a comedian, his job only existed once we had gone to bed. Our mum worked from home. She was a photographer. So to us as kids our parents didn’t really work, they were just always home,” he shared.
“We had this amazing foundation where at any time of the day, mum or dad would always be at the house.
“We felt so solid as a family. Which is why I have this dream of one day having kids, putting my work to bed and just being there as a dad.”
