Whoopi Goldberg walked off from The View during a heated roundtable discussion about Miranda Lambert’s recent calling out of fans taking selfies during her show.
Now, Whoopi is a total legend of the entertainment industry, being one of only eighteen people to ever receive EGOT status, meaning she has conquered the 4 pillars of the American awards circuit by winning something at the Emmys, the Grammys, the Oscars and the Tony Awards.
However, in recent years, Whoopi has spent much of her time presenting the American daytime talk show The View, where she is known for stoking the fires of debate by often making controversial comments.
The sixty-seven-year-old most recently hit headlines with her latest antics from the show, where she walked off the stage in the middle of a discussion. The conversation was focused on the recent drama from country singer Miranda Lambert, who controversially called out a group of concertgoers who were taking selfies while she was in the middle of performing an emotional ballad.
Whoopi was discussing the situation with her co-hosts Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin. Sunny sided with the audience members in question, saying: “[I’m] going to take as many selfies as I want if I paid $757 for tickets.”
However, Whoopi disagreed: “You know what? Stay home,” she said.
“If you’re going to spend $750 to come to my concert, then give me the respect of watching me while I do my thing, or don’t come.”
Sunny responded by arguing that she likes to look back on the photos and videos she takes at live shows later on in order to remember them.
“Turn on the television, girl,” Whoopi quipped in response, before getting up and walking off toward the audience.
“I’m leaving y’all! I want to take a picture with this marvellous woman, who is 91. So, we’re going to do a selfie,” she said.
“Just me and you. Will you push that button? We’ll be right back,” she said to the audience member.
Fans have responded to Whoopi’s point-proving antics on social media.
One person wrote in response to the debate: “Who cares. Honestly. People take selfies at concerts ALL the time. Who is she anyway?!”
A second agreed with Whoopi: “Loved what Whoopi did today!!”
A third penned: “I actually agree with her on this one. The people were being rude and messing with their stupid phones, being obnoxious and blocking the views from others. I agree with Miranda. People can be rude at home.”
