Johnny Depp has spoken out in response to the claims that he is dating Jenna Ortega, who is more than half his age, and he’s understandably annoyed.
This comes after Ortega addressed the rumours.
Ortega, 20, has been a familiar face on our screens for a while now thanks to her performance as the Addams family’s daughter in Wednesday, which catapulted her to fame.
However, being in the public eye can come with its downfalls, as the star has found recently, when baseless rumours that she was dating Johnny Depp began to circulate online.
Following a story from the celebrity gossip site Deuxmoi that alluded to the possibly they could be working together on the much awaited sequel, Beetlejuice 2, directed by Tim Burton, rumours of a romantic relationship between Ortega and Depp started to circulate.
However, Ortega quickly addressed the rumours through Instagram, calling them “ridiculous” and pleading with people to stop spreading misinformation.
“This is so ridiculous I can’t even laugh,” Ortega said on her Instagram stories. “I have never met or worked with Johnny Depp in my life. Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone.”
Dozens of people have shared their thoughts on the news, with one writing: “I knew those rumours about Jenna Ortega dating Johnny Depp were bulls**t. If they weren’t then people would hate on them like they did with Florence Pugh and Zach Braff. FFS people just want to hate for the sake of hating these days.”
While a second said: “What’s weird about this is I’m 99% sure this rumor originated from a Jenna Ortega fan page on Facebook. Stan culture and it’s ability to make outrageous claims yet somehow get a group of people to believe them is nuts. Also stop trying to associate Johnny Depp with Jenna Ortega.”
“I think he’s learnt his lesson with younger girls, there’s no chance he’ll try that again,” a third added.
Since then, Depp’s representative has also spoken out about the claims, saying in a statement: “Mr. Depp has no personal or professional relationship with Ms. Ortega whatsoever.”
Adding: “He has never met her or spoken to her. He is not involved in any project with her, nor does he intend to be. He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumors that are intended to harm his reputation and career.”
