Gipsy Rose Blanchard is leaving jail three years ahead of schedule after receiving parole; she is scheduled to be freed in December.
According to the Missouri Department of Corrections, Gipsy, who has been in jail for 7 years after being found guilty of second-degree murder for the death of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, will be freed on parole on December 28.
You might be aware that after pleading guilty to being involved in her mother’s murder, Gipsy was given a ten-year prison term in 2016. This shocking case gave rise to a Hulu produced series and an HBO documentary.
Gypsy’s boyfriend Nick Godejohn also confessed to killing Dee Dee in order to free Gipsy from her mother’s control. He is presently serving a life sentence.
Gipsy was allegedly held captive by Dee Dee for years, forced to act disabled and even tied up in a bed when she tried to flee. According to reports, Dee Dee had Munchausen by proxy, a mental illness where parents try to gain sympathy or publicity through their children’s fake illnesses.
Dozens of people have commented on her upcoming release online, with one writing: “Good, she deserves to heal and spend time with her dad and enjoy a life having a parent that truly loves her.”
While a second commented: “Right on! This is an early parole I can see being a good thing. I hope she lives life great and gets to experience things she wasn’t able to before or ever!”
“Good. She deserves a chance to actually live her life! At this point she hasn’t been able to do that,” a thrid added.
Another said: “So happy for her! she deserves it. i don’t agree with her being put in prison to begin with, she was already doing her time with that crazy lady… praying for all the love & happiness for her.”
It appears the general consensus is that she deserves to be free and live the rest of her life in peace.
Gipsy, who is currently 32 years old, has stated in jail interviews that she feels more liberated there than being with her mother.
