Ricky Gervais Shocks Viewers With Brutal James Corden Joke In Netflix Christmas Special

In his latest Netflix show, Armageddon, Ricky Gervais didn’t shy away from taking a harsh swipe at James Corden. The controversial comedy special premiered on Christmas Day, sparking backlash weeks prior due to a promotional joke featuring ableist slurs, prompting thousands to sign a petition calling for its removal.

Addressing the criticism, the 62-year-old comedian dismissed it as mostly “faux offense,” emphasizing that the majority of the backlash was not genuine. In the show, Gervais revived his comedic “feud” with fellow comedian James Corden. He discussed a website designed for viewers to check if a dog or cat died in a film or TV show to avoid ruining their day.

Gervais highlighted the website’s evolution over 13 years, with questions reflecting contemporary sensitivities. He humorously recounted questions about Schindler’s List, including inquiries about fat jokes, hate speech, misgendering, antisemitism, and a sad ending. Amidst the list of queries, Gervais revealed his own question: “Is James Corden in it?”

The ongoing banter between Gervais and Corden, characterized by friendly teasing and comedic jabs, has been a recurring theme over the years. Even in 2020, Gervais assured that their interactions are all in good fun. The duo made headlines the previous year when Corden’s monologue closely resembled one of Gervais’ routines, leading to a Twitter uproar. Despite the controversy, Gervais expressed doubt that Corden knowingly copied the joke, emphasizing there was no ill intent behind it.
