Daniel Radcliffe Breaks Silence After JK Rowling Says She’ll ‘Never Forgive’ Him Or Emma Watson

Daniel Radcliffe has offered his perspective on the ongoing dispute between JK Rowling and his fellow Harry Potter stars concerning the author’s contentious views on the transgender community.

JK Rowling’s creation of the Harry Potter books and subsequent films has left an indelible mark on millions of people worldwide. However, her remarks about the transgender community in 2020 sparked accusations of transphobia when she shared an article containing the phrase ‘people who menstruate.’ Both Radcliffe and Emma Watson, along with other actors from the franchise, vocally supported the trans community. Radcliffe expressed his support in an essay for The Trevor Project, asserting, “Transgender women are women… Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people.” He also apologized for any pain caused by Rowling’s comments.

In response to a social media user questioning whether Rowling awaited apologies from certain Harry Potter cast members, she stated that she had no interest in reconciliation, citing concerns about eroding women’s rights and supporting transitioning minors.

In a recent interview with The Atlantic, Radcliffe addressed the rift with Rowling, acknowledging her pivotal role in his career while emphasizing that disagreement with her views doesn’t diminish his gratitude. He remarked, “Jo, obviously Harry Potter would not have happened without her… But that doesn’t mean that you owe the things you truly believe to someone else for your entire life.”

Other Harry Potter stars have also weighed in on the controversy:

  • Rupert Grint affirmed his support for the trans community, likening Rowling to a family member with whom he may disagree.
  • Ralph Fiennes defended Rowling against verbal abuse while acknowledging differing viewpoints on gender identity.
  • Harry Melling emphasized his belief that transgender women are women and transgender men are men.
  • Evanna Lynch expressed empathy for Rowling’s position while advocating for listening and understanding.
