People Stunned By Incredibly Inappropriate Scene From Classic Disney Movie

Disney fans have been left horrified by a highly inappropriate scene from an older film.

The movie in question is Blank Check, which follows the adventures of 11-year-old Preston after he receives a blank cheque from a criminal. He then uses it to buy houses and limousine services.

While the fraudulent behaviour is eyebrow-raising, it’s not the reason viewers are shocked upon rewatching the film years later. Released in 1994, Blank Check has one particular plot line that has been heavily criticised.

This plot involves the 11-year-old seemingly pursuing a romantic relationship with an adult woman.

The controversial scene comes at the film’s conclusion, where Preston learns that money cannot buy happiness. However, it’s a specific moment in this climax that has garnered attention even 20 years after the movie’s release. In this scene, Preston shares a kiss with bank teller and undercover FBI agent Shay, played by Karen Duffy, who was 31 years old at the time.

This was not a simple peck on the cheek but a kiss on the lips, which many have criticised as completely inappropriate and uncomfortable.

To add to the unsettling nature of the scene, Shay then tells Preston she will go on a date with him “in six years.” This would mean he’d be just 17 years old, going on a date with someone 20 years his senior.

People shared their shock on social media. One person wrote: “I remember rewatching this movie one night and seeing this scene coming up and thinking to myself ‘she’s going to kiss him on the cheek like they usually do’ and then my jaw hitting the floor when she actually kissed him on the lips. I didn’t remember this at all from when I was a child. Unbelievable.”

Another commented: “I assure you. That scene was weird when Blank Check first came out.”

A third remarked: “This was messed up even in its day,” while a fourth asked: “Nobody on set was like, ‘On the lips? Are you sure about this?’”

Some reactions suggested this was a “harmless” scene, with many playing into the harmful stereotype that young boys should “enjoy” the attention of older women.
