Gabourey Sidibe and her husband Brandon Frankel have joyfully welcomed twins, Cooper and Maya.
The 41-year-old Precious actress posed for family photos that were initially shared by the Shade Room.
The twins arrived in early April, and the delighted new mom shared the inspiration behind their names. “Brandon always wanted to name a son Cooper, so we call him ‘Coop,’ and Maya was named shortly before our baby moon to the Mayan Riviera in Mexico,” Sidibe told Shutterstock.
“Both twins have traditional West African middle names after members of my family,” she added. “They’re both extremely strong and hilarious, though they have yet to really interact with each other,” she continued.
“Cooper will sometimes speak for Maya and alert us that she’s about to spit up,” she explained.
“Maya loves her name being sung to her and is the queen of comedic timing, and Cooper loves his sleep and has the funniest facial expressions. They both love cuddling with Mom and Dad,” she added.
The twins had their own plans for their arrival.
The new parents recounted going in for a routine appointment and being told the babies would be born that day instead of the original plan.
Now settling into life as a family of four, the actress is looking forward to all the little milestones ahead.
“We’re excited for outfits and getting them dressed up, for sing-alongs, trips and to explore, and raising them to be good people,” she said.
Gabourey announced her pregnancy in February at a BabyList event. “I’m pregnant! We thought it was time to give our cats some responsibility so we’re giving them each a baby to take care of!” Sidibe wrote on Instagram.
“Double the babies, double the cats, double the fun!! Twin Delivery coming soon! Twinty Twinty Four!!”
Gabourey revealed on Live With Kelly and Ryan in early December 2022 that she and Brandon had been married for over a year.
“Surprise! I can finally call her my wife publicly! Since @gabby3shabby finally spilled the beans today on Live with Kelly and Ryan – we’ve been married since March ’21!” Brandon wrote on his Instagram page.
