Why Prince William And Children Didn’t Face The Camera In Kate’s Father’s Day Photo

A photo shared by Prince William’s three children for Father’s Day, which showed their backs to the camera, has been interpreted as a display of family intimacy by an expert.

Princes George and Louis, along with Princess Charlotte, posted the picture on Kensington Palace’s X account earlier today. Taken in Norfolk last month, the photo captures the siblings from behind.

Social media users were quick to gush over the image. Body language expert Judi James weighed in on its likely significance.

She explained to the Mirror, “By being photographed from the back, they avoid directly engaging with the camera, suggesting this is an intimate and loving moment rather than a staged one intended to please viewers.”

In an unprecedented move, George, Charlotte, and Louis issued their first royal statement with the new Father’s Day photo.

The family appeared at yesterday’s Trooping the Colour event (Image: Samir Hussein/WireImage). The message shared on their official social media was the first to be signed by the children. The post on X, formerly known as Twitter, read: “We love you, Papa. Happy Father’s Day.” It was signed “G, C & L.”

This message follows Prince William’s own tribute to King Charles. In a social media post, the Prince of Wales wrote, “Happy Father’s Day, Pa. W,” accompanied by a photo of a young William standing next to the future king, who had a small football at his feet.

The picture, taken on June 12, 1984, in the gardens of Kensington Palace, shows William before the birth of his younger brother, Prince Harry, in September of the same year.

Prince William also revealed an affectionate nickname for King Charles in his Father’s Day message. The Royal Family’s X account shared footage of Charles with his late father, Prince Philip, from the BFI archive.

“Wishing all Dads, and those who may be missing their parents today, a relaxing Father’s Day,” read the royal family’s official account. Set to piano music, the footage included several scenes of Philip and Charles together, such as Philip lifting baby Charles out of a pram and the two sailing.

Last year, the royal family marked Father’s Day with a photo of a young Prince Harry and William with their dad. The Twitter post featured three images captioned, “To Dads everywhere, we wish you a very special Father’s Day today.”

One image showed Prince Philip with his son Charles, another depicted Queen Camilla with her father Major Bruce Shand, and the third showed Charles with William and Harry. The sweet image from 1997 was taken above the Falls of Muick on the Balmoral estate in Scotland.
