‘Hawk Tuah’ Girl Forced Into ‘Virtual Hiding’ Due To Being ‘Nervous’ From New Fame

Hailey Welch, also known as the “Hawk Tuah” girl, has gone into virtual hiding after her unexpected viral fame. Welch became an internet sensation following a vox pop video where she humorously suggested a “hawk tuah” and “spit on that thang” as a move to drive men crazy in the bedroom. The phrase, referencing a spitting sound and polishing a shoe, quickly caught on, leading to widespread online attention.

Capitalizing on her newfound fame, Welch partnered with Fathead Threads, a local Tennessee business, to sell hats and t-shirts featuring her catchphrase. The merchandise, priced between $32.70 and $43.70, has sold well, but Welch has felt overwhelmed by the sudden spotlight. According to Jason Poteete, owner of Fathead Threads, Welch is one of the most recognized people globally but hasn’t fully embraced her viral status. Welch has avoided public appearances, even opting to sign merchandise at a neutral location instead of the factory.

Reports indicate that Welch is staying with her family in a remote area, protected by her close-knit community. Feeling nervous about the massive online attention, she has taken steps to secure her privacy and process her sudden fame. Poteete revealed that Welch has not earned any money from the initial viral video and has contacted a lawyer to copyright the phrase “hawk tuah.”

Despite the overwhelming attention, Welch’s story highlights the rapid rise to fame that can come from a single viral moment. As she navigates her newfound celebrity, Welch continues to manage her public presence carefully, balancing between leveraging her popularity and maintaining her personal privacy.
