Quentin Tarantino Hails 2006 Historical Drama as ‘A Masterpiece’
Film enthusiasts are buzzing about a brutal historical drama from 2006 that Quentin Tarantino has dubbed “a masterpiece.”
2006 was a stellar year for cinema, with notable releases like The Break-Up, The Last King of Scotland, Click, Little Miss Sunshine, and The Pursuit of Happyness. However, one lesser-known film continues to garner rave reviews nearly two decades later.
One Reddit user praised the film, saying, “One of the best movies of all time for me. The stakes are real, there is a constant focus on what’s important, everything that happens serves a purpose, the amount of character development is perfect.”
Apocalypto, the film in question, follows a young man’s daring escape and subsequent quest to rescue his pregnant wife and son. Social media users have been effusive in their praise. One person declared it “without a doubt” the “greatest movie of all time.” Another simply said, “Great film,” while a third added, “Definitely a favorite.” Another fan exclaimed, “They don’t make movies like they used to! This movie was phenomenal!!”
Supporting these glowing reviews, Apocalypto boasts a 79 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Upon its release, it received critical acclaim, winning nine awards out of an impressive 23 nominations, including three Oscar nominations.
Despite its accolades, Apocalypto faced controversies, particularly in Italy. The country’s censors initially deemed the film suitable for children, but an Italian court later overturned this decision, barring those aged 14 and under from viewing it. Carlo Rienzi, president of the non-profit association Codacons, remarked at the time, “Minors must be protected more than the economic interests of film production companies.”
Russia was the only country without age restrictions on Apocalypto, while other nations rated it R.
For those interested in experiencing Apocalypto, it is currently available for streaming on platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Peacock, and Hoopla.
