Shannen Doherty and her ex-husband Kurt Iswarienko reached a settlement in their contentious divorce battle just one day before the actress’ death, according to In Touch.
Court documents obtained by In Touch reveal that Shannen, who passed away on July 13 at the age of 53, informed the judge the day before that the case could proceed uncontested. Her filing stated, “The parties have entered into a written agreement regarding their property and their marriage or domestic partnership rights, including support, the original of which is being or has been submitted to the court.”
Shannen also “knowingly” waived her right to spousal support, and Kurt agreed to do the same. The settlement was initially reported by Us Weekly.
For weeks, Shannen had been seeking monthly support from her ex, requesting the court to award her $15,434 per month, “retroactive to June 1, 2024.”
Shannen disclosed in a court declaration that she had been undergoing various cancer treatments since 2019, including brain surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and experimental protocols. Initially, some treatments seemed effective, but by 2023, they were no longer working. She stated, “On January 16, 2023, I underwent brain surgery for my metastasized breast cancer. The day before my surgery, I informed Kurt that I did not want him present and that I would be filing for divorce.”
Due to her health issues, Shannen explained she was unable to work and had no future employment prospects. Her primary income came from residuals from work done before her marriage, notably from the television show Charmed, which she learned would cease streaming on major platforms after June 30, 2024, drastically reducing her income. She reported her year-to-date income as $25,732.90 and said she had not worked since 2022.
In her motion, Shannen accused Kurt of delaying the disclosure of his income information. She claimed, “While I have been unable to work, incurring exorbitant medical expenses not covered by insurance, Kurt has been utilizing the airplane, spending thousands of dollars at medical spas, jewelry stores, Gucci, and on flights for his ‘agent’, while claiming insufficient funds to support me.”
Shannen revealed she owned a $6 million home (with a $3 million mortgage), had around $250,000 in the bank, and another $1.8 million in investments. Kurt had not responded to Shannen’s filing before her death.
Over the weekend, Shannen’s representative Leslie Sloane announced her passing, stating, “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease.”
