A shocking video captures a father punching a comedian on stage over an offensive joke about his son. The incident, which has gone viral, has ignited a fierce debate about the limits of comedy.
Opinions are divided. Some believe comedians should have the freedom to joke about anything, while others sympathize with the father, feeling the comedian crossed a line.
One viewer commented, “Two wrongs don’t make it right. Violence isn’t the right way to handle an offensive verbal attack.” Another remarked, “Geez, I’m sure [the] comedian didn’t mean it.”
Defending the father, one person wrote, “Way to go dad!!!! Disturbing.” Another added, “Bro. I’m all for freedom, and I think comedians should be funny, but what were you thinking making fun of his child like that?” A third agreed, “I was taught kids were off limits when it came to comedy. I agree with [the] dad… [the] comedian went too far.”
The incident occurred at a comedy show in Madrid, where Jaime Caravaca, a well-known comedian in Spain, was performing. The altercation erupted when Alberto Pugilato, the aggrieved father, punched Caravaca for making a sexualized joke about his three-month-old son.
The confrontation quickly escalated, with Pugilato delivering a punch that knocked Caravaca down. Audience members captured the incident on video, which quickly spread on social media.
According to reports, police were called to the scene, but no arrests were made as Caravaca chose not to file a complaint against Pugilato, per MailOnline.
Caravaca later issued an apology on social media. He stated, “After what happened, what was intended to be a joke was ultimately an unfortunate and not at all appropriate comment on my part. My apologies to anyone who feels affected.”
The tension between Caravaca and Pugilato had been brewing before the show. Pugilato had posted a photo of his baby on X, formerly Twitter, with the caption, “Pride and joy.” Caravaca allegedly responded, “Nothing and no one can prevent the possibility that he is gay and when he grows up he gets tired of sucking Black c***.”
Spanish news outlet El Mundo reported that Pugilato is known for his involvement in far-right movements, while Caravaca is recognized for his left-wing stance and LGBT activism.
Before striking Caravaca at the comedy show, Pugilato was heard saying, “Those p****philic comments about my son… say them to my face… you piece of trash… now!”
In an interview with MultiCanal Radio, Pugilato reflected on the incident, stating, “I have been very uneasy, with a feeling that I have not had in my life, very unpleasant and until I have had it in front of me I have not found peace.”
