Grand Theft Auto VI is undoubtedly one of the most eagerly awaited video games, especially considering it’s been over a decade since the last installment was released.
While Rockstar Games has kept fans entertained with other titles like Red Dead Redemption 2—which was an incredible experience—players have been eagerly awaiting more Grand Theft Auto, and that wait is almost over. The game is scheduled to release in ‘Fall 2025,’ or Autumn, as it’s known in the UK.
Even though GTA 6 is likely more than a year from launch, there’s a significant issue that many eager gamers will face: it might be unplayable for them when it finally arrives.
The reason? Many simply won’t have the necessary hardware to run GTA 6, as it’s set to release on the latest generation of consoles next year. Unfortunately, PC gamers will have to wait their turn, trailing behind console users for their version.
However, it’s important to note that GTA 6 won’t be available on older consoles that many players have relied on for years, specifically the PS4 and Xbox One. When announcing the release, Rockstar stated in a press release: “Rockstar Gamegras, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., is proud to announce that Grand Theft Auto VI is coming to PlayStation 5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X/S games and entertainment systems in 2025.”
Expecting an 11-year-old console to handle GTA 6 is simply unrealistic. If you tried, the console would probably send a resignation notice before breaking down in protest against such harsh treatment.
In fact, the consoles that will support GTA 6 at launch—the PS5 and the Xbox Series X/S—will themselves be almost five years old by then, having been released at the end of 2020.
Unless there are significant development delays, GTA 6 is set to launch before the next generation of consoles. So, if you want to be among the first to play it, you’ll need to have your PS5 or Xbox Series X/S ready. As for PC gamers, they’ll likely have to wait a bit longer for their version, and soon after, the modding community will likely start creating some fantastic modifications for the game.
