Jane’s Addiction’s frontman, Perry Farrell, turned their performance at Boston’s Leader Bank Pavilion on Friday, September 13, into an unexpected spectacle when he aired his frustrations with guitarist Dave Navarro in the middle of a song.

The crowd was left in shock as the 65-year-old Farrell threw a punch at Navarro, 57, before being pulled away by crew members at the venue.

Speculation has been wild on social media about what triggered the unexpected confrontation, with many fans now worried that this incident could mark the end of the legendary band.

Concertgoers took to social media platform X, reporting signs of tension between the band members throughout the performance. Some claimed that Farrell had been shouting at Navarro during their hit song “Mountain Song,” before the situation escalated.

As the band moved on to “Ocean Size,” Farrell appeared increasingly agitated and approached Navarro. After seemingly shoulder-barging the guitarist, Farrell then swung a punch at him, despite Navarro’s apparent unwillingness to engage in a public altercation.

Viral footage from the event shows a production team member stepping in to calm the situation, pleading with the singer to “stop.” The stage lights were quickly dimmed in an attempt to mask the incident, but the audience could still make out the figures of several people restraining Farrell and escorting him off the stage. Reports also indicate that bassist Eric Avery, 59, stepped in to help control the situation.

Fans have since praised Navarro for his professionalism in handling the altercation.

Despite Farrell charging toward him, Navarro continued to play his guitar outro before being seen speaking with crew members, clearly stunned by the events. The show, which had only featured nine songs, was cut short after the incident.

The altercation has thrown the band’s much-anticipated reunion tour into uncertainty, with many fans fearing this could mark the end of Jane’s Addiction. One concertgoer commented, “We may have just seen the last Jane’s Addiction show ever.” Another wrote, “Not cool, not fair to the fans either, shame on Perry. A band works together, not fighting each other.” Others marveled at Navarro’s commitment, with one saying, “I love how Navarro is still playing the guitar outro even while Farrell is attacking him. That’s commitment.”

After Farrell was escorted off stage, Navarro, Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins, 57, returned to the stage together, showing solidarity. The trio hugged, made peace signs to the audience, and attempted to salvage the situation.

Jane’s Addiction had several shows lined up across the U.S. through October, but it’s unclear if those performances will continue as planned after the incident.
