Demi Moore’s latest horror movie is so deranged that people are walking out of the movie theatres.
The 61-year-old actress stars in The Substance, which hit the silver screen on September 20.
Playing a Hollywood star named Elisabeth Sparkle who uses a black-market drug to become a younger and better version of herself.
The film was directed by French filmmaker Coralie Fargeat and contains themes of the never achievable Hollywood beauty standard.
The younger, better version of Sparkle is played 29-year-old Margaret Qualley.
Ranking an impressive rating of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, many have praised the film. However, some could not even make it to the end.
Viewers took to social media to share their disappointment and shock at some of the gory content; ‘Some people walked out of the screening of The Substance we were at last night. One of the most violent films I’ve ever seen.’
Another wrote; “I’ve seen thousands of films and it’s very hard to shock me, but this gloriously demented movie was cray-cray on 11. ‘The Substance’ is not for the faint of heart (during my viewing, several people walked out mid film), but is an instant cult classic. You’ve been warned.”
A third shared similar views; “The Substance is the only time I’ve ever been in a cinema and everybody clapped at the end. Two people walked out 20 minutes in. Three more walked out later.”
