Netflix has just dropped what many are calling “the best show” it’s released in a while and viewers are already eagerly demanding a second season.
With spooky season in full swing, some might be feeling a bit overloaded with all the scares—and between holiday countdowns and cuffing season pressure, it’s understandable if nerves are fraying. Thankfully, Netflix has come to the rescue with the perfect rom-com to ease the tension.
This new romantic comedy series was created and executive produced by Erin Foster, a self-described “very cynical writer” and “very cynical person” (known for her work on NBC’s The New Normal)—which already sounds promising but what really seals the deal is the star-studded cast: Queenpins star Kristen Bell, Shazam! actor Adam Brody, Succession’s Justine Lupe, and Veep’s Timothy Simons.
Foster told Tudum that the series explores themes of “failing at dating and failing at relationships and things blowing up, and finding the humor in it.” The show revolves around Joanne (Bell), who is agnostic, and Noah (Brody), an “unconventional rabbi.” Their differing views on religion and life, combined with the ever-present challenges of modern dating and quirky family dynamics, deliver the kind of feel-good, hilarious rom-com fans have been craving since the days of Bridget Jones.
It didn’t take long for viewers to flock to social media to share their thoughts. At the time of writing, Nobody Wants This boasts an impressive 95 percent on the Rotten Tomatoes tomatometer and an 89 percent audience score.
One user called it the “Best binge-watching show of this year so far. Loved it.” Another agreed, saying, “I liked it—definitely needs another season asap.” A third fan confessed, “I’ve watched it twice already,” while a fourth raved, “Probably the best show Netflix has put out in a long time.” Another user summed it up as “Amazing, uplifting, stunning, best show I’ve seen in years.”
Despite being released on September 26, the calls for a second season are growing louder. But is there hope for more? Creator Erin Foster told IndieWire, “We’re getting a really positive response. And so I think the conversations have definitely started to happen about a potential Season Two. The story in Season One unfolds really slowly. And so I think if there is a Season Two, I would want to just kind of pick up where we leave off and continue to take it slow, because I don’t want us to get too far ahead of ourselves. I mean, I want my show to be on the air as long as possible!”
For now, you can catch the first season of Nobody Wants This streaming on Netflix.
