MTV legend Ananda Lewis has sadly died aged 52.
Known for shows like Total Request Live and Hot Zone, the icon’s sister shared that she sadly passed after her years long battle with breast cancer.
Lakshmi Emory shared on Facebook: “She’s free, and in His heavenly arms,”, “Lord, rest her soul.”
She did not share her cause of death but the MTV star had been fighting cancer. She revealed in 2020 that she had been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.
In 2024, the TV host shared that she had decided not to have a double mastectomy and take an alternative approach to “keep my tumor and try to work it out of my body a different way.”
“My plan at first was to get out excessive toxins in my body,” she shared in an October 2024 interview on CNN. “I felt like my body is intelligent, I know that to be true. Our bodies are brilliantly made.”
She later added that she had regrets: “I wish I could go back,”, “It’s important for me to admit where I went wrong with this.”
In her essay published in Essence earlier this year, she wrote: “We’re not meant to stay here forever,”, “We come to this life, have experiences—and then we go. Being real about that with yourself changes how you choose to live.”
She added, “I don’t want to spend one more minute than I have to suffering unnecessarily. That, for me, is not the quality of life I’m interested in. When it’s time for me to go, I want to be able to look back on my life and say, ‘I did that exactly how I wanted to.’”
She leaves behind her 14-year-old son Langston, whom she shares with Harry Smith, Will Smith’s brother.
RIP.
