Stevie Wonder has finally addressed the rumor that he can actually see.

The legendary musician was not born blind but sadly lost his sight at six weeks olds due to a health condition called retinopathy of prematurity.

After being born premature, he was put in an incubator that contained too much oxygen and he sadly developed ROP.

The disease impacts premature babies after abnormal blood vessels start to grow in the infants retinas. If it is not quickly discovered and treated, the disease leads to vision loss or complete blindness.

Speaking at his show in Cardiff, Wales, the musician shared: “I must say to all of you, something that I was thinking, ‘When did I want to let the world know this?’ But I wanted to say it right now.

“You know there have been rumors about me seeing and all that? But seriously, you know the truth.”

“Truth is, shortly after my birth, I became blind. Now, that was a blessing because it’s allowed me to see the world in the vision of truth, of sight.

“See people in the spirit of them, not how they look. Not what color they are, but what color is their spirit?”

Rumors have been circulating for years that the 75-year-old can actually see.

Shaquille O’Neal shared an encounter he had with the singer years ago in an elevator. They had lived in the same building at the time and the athlete claimed despite his blindness, the singer recognized O’Neal right away.

“He comes in, says ‘what’s up Shaq’. Presses the button, it’s a true story, presses the button, gets off on his floor by himself, goes to his room.

“I went and called every person I knew and told the story. They didn’t believe me.” the athlete previously shared.
