While Taylor Swift basks in the joy of her engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce, one of her oldest celebrity friendships appears to have quietly fizzled out behind the scenes.

Blake Lively, once a key figure in Swift’s famously tight inner circle, has reportedly distanced herself from the pop icon — and sources say she has no intention of reaching out to congratulate the singer on her recent engagement.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, the actress didn’t send a message after Swift and Kelce revealed their news to the world earlier this week via Instagram. A source close to the situation told the outlet, “Blake didn’t reach out [following the engagement announcement] and isn’t going to.”

“This isn’t the time. What would be the point of reaching out now? It really makes no sense,” the insider continued. “[Lively] has bigger fish to fry,” a likely reference to the actress’s ongoing legal situation with actor and director Justin Baldoni.

Lively, who turned 38 this week, is said to be focused entirely on her own family and career. According to the same source, “She’s not sitting at home obsessing about Taylor getting engaged. She’s got her own life to focus on.”

For fans who followed the pair’s friendship over the years — including joint NFL game appearances, red carpet hugs, and family holidays — the reported fallout comes as a surprise. Lively and her husband, actor Ryan Reynolds, were once considered some of Swift’s closest allies, often seen supporting her at public events and featuring in her social media posts.

However, cracks in the relationship reportedly began to show earlier this year when Lively became embroiled in a messy legal feud with Baldoni, her co-star in the 2024 film It Ends With Us. In January, Baldoni filed a $400 million lawsuit against Lively, Reynolds, and their publicist, accusing the trio of defamation and extortion, among other claims. The suit was eventually dismissed in June, but not before dragging Swift into the orbit of the dispute.

In court documents, Baldoni included text messages allegedly sent by Lively that referenced Swift in a strategic way. “I happen to have a few dragons. For better or worse, but usually for better,” one message reportedly read, believed to be an allusion to Swift’s ability to mobilize her massive public support when under threat.

In another alleged exchange, Lively described Swift and Reynolds as her “most trusted partners,” indicating just how closely the singer was entwined in the situation. By May, Swift herself was subpoenaed to appear in court as a potential witness in the escalating battle between the actors.

At the time, a source close to Swift told People, “Their friendship has halted. Taylor wants no part in this drama.” Another insider added that the two were “taking some space” from each other, and communication between them had dwindled.

Although Baldoni eventually dropped Swift’s subpoena, the damage to her relationship with Lively may have already been done. The once inseparable duo have not been seen together publicly in months, and Swift did not publicly acknowledge Lively’s birthday this week, further fuelling speculation of a rift.

“This is something that we would’ve talked about in the past — like what was going to happen, if she was going to be in the wedding, what that would look like,” the source told the Daily Mail. “But now, it’s just silence. There’s no ‘will she or won’t she’ about Blake being in the wedding, because she just won’t. She knows that, and I don’t think she particularly wants to talk about that.”

Despite the personal turbulence, Swift is said to be fully focused on her relationship with Kelce, and the couple appear closer than ever.

The Grammy winner and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end made their engagement public on Tuesday with a cheeky Instagram caption that read, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨.” The post included a carousel of images showing the pair at Arrowhead Stadium and later at a college football game, where Swift debuted her engagement ring.

While the news delighted fans, Lively’s silence has not gone unnoticed. For years, she and Swift were seen as something of a power friendship in Hollywood — stylish, supportive, and frequently snapped side by side at major events.

In happier times, the pair vacationed together, attended NFL games with Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, and even sparked speculation about Lively directing one of Swift’s music videos. Swift also featured the names of Lively and Reynolds’ children in her song “Betty,” further solidifying the close bond.

But the Hollywood terrain is ever-changing, and it seems that even the most iconic friendships aren’t immune to outside pressures. Whether the rift is permanent or simply a case of “taking space,” as insiders put it, remains to be seen.

For now, as Swift prepares to walk down the aisle with Kelce, one thing is clear: Blake Lively won’t be there holding her bouquet.
