Elliot Page has confirmed a new relationship with actress and comedian Julia Shiplett after sharing photos of the pair on Instagram during Pride celebrations, marking the first time Page has publicly presented a partner since he came out as transgender in 2020.

Page posted an image of the couple smiling together at a rainbow-painted pedestrian crossing, using emoji in the caption rather than a written statement. Shiplett followed by posting her own Pride weekend content that included a short Instagram Story video showing Page relaxing in a hot spring, alongside the message: “Happy prideee.”

The posts quickly drew attention online, with fans and LGBTQ+ commenters treating the images as a relationship announcement even though neither Page nor Shiplett issued a formal comment beyond the social posts.

The couple have also been seen together in public in recent weeks. They were spotted courtside at a New York Liberty WNBA game on 10 June, an appearance that, with the later Pride weekend posts, added to speculation that Page and Shiplett were dating before the pair made their relationship visible on social media.

Page, 38, is an Oscar-nominated actor whose career includes leading roles in films such as Juno and Inception, and who later starred in the Netflix series The Umbrella Academy. He announced in 2020 that he is transgender, a statement that made international news and was widely seen as a significant moment for transgender visibility in mainstream entertainment.

Since coming out, Page has spoken publicly about the pressures and scrutiny faced by transgender people, and has used interviews and public appearances to argue for greater safety and dignity for trans communities. His memoir, Pageboy, published in 2023, described experiences from his life and career, including accounts of relationships and the personal impact of working in an industry that placed heavy expectations on his identity and public image.

Before this new relationship became public, Page’s most prominent partnership was his marriage to choreographer and dancer Emma Portner. The pair married in 2018 and later divorced, with the divorce finalised in 2021.

Shiplett, also 38, has built a career spanning acting, comedy and writing, and has recently gained wider visibility through her work on the series Overcompensating. The Pride weekend posts linked her name to Page’s at a time when Page’s personal life, as well as his public advocacy, remains a subject of sustained interest among fans and entertainment media.

While celebrity relationships often arrive through managed statements or red carpet appearances, the Page-Shiplett reveal followed a pattern increasingly common among public figures: an informal but deliberate social media post that communicates a new chapter without explaining it. In this case, the content appeared to be framed around Pride rather than a relationship milestone, with the rainbow imagery and brief caption giving supporters space to react without prompting a wider discussion from either person.

For Page, the public response also lands in the context of how he has spoken about dating since transitioning. In earlier interviews, Page has described feeling more at ease and more connected in social settings, and has indicated that being able to show up authentically changed his experiences of intimacy and companionship.

The announcement also arrives during a period of active professional work for Page. Alongside acting, he has expanded his behind-the-scenes projects, including producing work connected to LGBTQ+ history and storytelling. One project referenced in recent coverage is a virtual reality adaptation tied to the book When Brooklyn Was Queer, part of a broader trend of experimenting with new formats for documentary-style narrative.

For many fans, the timing of the post, during global Pride events, carried added symbolism. Pride is often a time when LGBTQ+ public figures share personal reflections, messages of solidarity, or moments of joy. The images of Page and Shiplett were treated by many online as a celebratory gesture, not only of a relationship but of visibility itself, particularly given the political and cultural battles around transgender rights in several countries.

Neither Page nor Shiplett has said how long they have been together, and there has been no additional comment from representatives. The publicly verifiable facts remain limited to the Instagram posts and the documented public appearance at the WNBA game.

Even so, the significance of the moment for Page’s supporters is clear. Since 2020, Page has been one of the most recognisable transgender men in global entertainment, and any update on his personal life tends to be read through the lens of representation, privacy and the pressures placed on transgender public figures. The Pride weekend posts, and Shiplett’s “Happy prideee” message, were received by many as a straightforward expression of happiness and normalcy, rather than a carefully staged celebrity reveal.
