The ‘Scooby-Doo’ star thinks fans missing the past is bringing him back

Matthew Lillard is having a moment again.

And he thinks he knows exactly why.

The actor, best known for roles in Scooby-Doo and Scream, says nostalgia is playing a huge part in his recent comeback.

According to Lillard, projects from the early 2000s are more popular now than when they first released.

Which is saying a lot.

He pointed to Scooby-Doo as a key example, explaining that the films are finding a new audience years later as fans revisit older favourites.

His take is simple.

People are looking back.

And that is opening doors.

Lillard believes that connection to the past is a big reason he is getting cast again, even joking that it is less about him and more about what he represents.

But the comeback has been real.

After years of ups and downs in Hollywood, including periods where he thought his career might be over, things have shifted.

His return to the spotlight picked up in 2023 with Five Nights at Freddy’s, which introduced him to a new generation of fans.

Since then, the roles have kept coming.

He is now attached to major projects across film and TV, including upcoming sequels and high profile series.

It marks a clear turnaround.

From feeling overlooked to being back in demand, Lillard’s career is proof of how quickly things can change in Hollywood.

Especially when nostalgia hits at the right time.
