Streamers And Gamers Are Realising They Have Dents In Their Heads From Prolonged Headphone Use

According to some on social media, the long-term use of headphones is leaving dents in the heads of gamers and streamers.

One gamer, who was particularly astonished by the strange dent in his head, debuted his new ‘style’ while shaving it for charity on Twitter.

In the video, he said: “Dude the shaver’s working like a champ.

“I’m looking at an indent here; this is where my headphones go. I have a f**king headphone indent in my head. What the f**k.

“I thought that was just my hair; I thought just my hair did that.”

Many found it hilarious, as one user on Twitter said: “Once you stream on Twitch enough your genetic code changes and your skull becomes soft and pliable.”

Another said: “Modern Cranial Modification – a status symbol among the idle, they are raised in heavy headphones from an early age, such that a divot forms as an easily recognisable marker of sedentism.”

A third commented: “This is why I will never wear a headset for prolonged time periods.”

While another advised: “Idc who you [are] PLEASE invest in IEM’s [in ear monitors], getting bald spots or having a[n] indent in ya head isn’t worth it.”

Despite the worrying video, gamers will be pleased to know, this dent does go away, and doesn’t actually pose any long term problems.

However, those that wear headphones for a long period of time will need to be careful when it comes to ear damage.

ABC News recently shared a report by experts, who advised against wearing headphones more than 90 minutes a day, and never above 80% of the volume level.

According to a 2017 research by National Acoustic Laboratories, it is the equivalent of standing next to a lawn mower for one in ten Australians who routinely crank their headphones up to more than 85 decibels.

Dozens of people have shared their thoughts online, with one writing: “Mark my words, in a few centuries people will be born with crooked necks. Never before had evolution had to progress to accommodate weakness. We are regressing for sure. At least physically. Reminds of an episode of Dr.Who where the last human specimen was a sheet of skin fastened to a frame.”

While another commented: “I’ve read a few different articles that under 30s will have hearing loss younger than any other generation in history. Usually it took years of working in a factory without hearing protection. Now it’s gaming or listening to music for hours a day.”

“As a hairdresser and mother of gaming boys, I can confirm this to be true! It’s dependent on a few things but my oldest has most definitely got a good sized dent. I should add that some people have this anyway, it’s just their skull shape,” a third wrote.

Another added: “I definitely believe it. I’ve met people with indents on the sides of their head from glasses and a lot of people are developing “smartphone pinky” from the way we hold our phones.”

What do you make of the headphone phenomenon?
