Netflix has released a brand new trailer for Army of Thieves – the prequel to the hugely popular zombie-heist flick Army of the Dead.

The trailer was revealed during a panel featuring a bunch of the cast and crew at San Diego [email protected] 2021.

Matthias Schweighöfer, who will be reprising his role as the German safecracker Ludwig Dieter, will also be jumping behind the camera to direct the new feature film.

Zack Snyder, who created the franchise and directed the original movie, will be a producer.

Shay Hatten, who is also known for her work on John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, will return as a writer.

The trailer shows Ludwig being recruited by Gwendoline, who is played by Game of Thrones star Nathalie Emmanuel, to help pull off a heist while America battles a zombie outbreak.

The movie appears to be set at the beginning of the zombie apocalypse, which unfortunately means there is no flesh-eating undead making an appearance.

Speaking to ComicBook.com earlier this year, Schweighöfer said: “The Thieves will be a very entertaining and very cool movie,

“We finished, and I’m in post-production. Nathalie Emmanuel is fantastic in that movie. And yeah, it will be a hell of a ride. It’s so funny. And you will see scenes never seen before. It’s really entertaining. So, hopefully, we can all watch that movie soon.”

The cast includes Ruby O. Fee, Stuart Martin, Guztavo Khanage, Jonathan Cohen, Barbara Meier and Trent Garrett.

The zombie-heist franchise has also been given an animated series titled Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas and a sequel to the Dave Bautista-led film has also been confirmed.

Speaking to Polygon about Army of the Dead 2, Snyder revealed that he and co-writer Hatten are bursting with ideas.

He said: “I’d make it in a second. What we have planned is too crazy. Once we knew Vanderohe was bit, and he’s going to Mexico City, I was like, ‘You know what’s gonna happen?’ And then I just went on a tear. And by the time it ended, Shay was like, ‘OK.'”

He added: “Shay and I know exactly what happens next, and it’s insane.”

Army of Thieves has been slated for an exclusive Netflix release in the fall.
