At 68, Alec Baldwin apparently hasn't lost his enthusiasm for babies. But his wife Hilaria has delivered a rather definitive answer to the possibility of adding a ninth child to his family.

Speaking to Us Weekly at the Gala of the Stars benefiting Dancers Against Cancer on October 22, Hilaria, 42, said her husband would happily welcome more children if she agreed.

Her own position was considerably less enthusiastic. With Alec's eldest daughter Ireland Baldwin expecting her second baby, Hilaria declared: "I'm glad that Ireland's having them" before adding that "this shop is closed."

It's a funny response, but the couple's history suggests the prospect of another Baldwin baby has become something of a recurring family joke rather than a confirmed plan.

The distinction matters. In a February 2025 interview with People, Hilaria described Alec as frequently asking about expanding their family. Yet the actor himself immediately qualified the suggestion, saying, "I don't really want one."

He explained that watching their youngest children grow out of the baby stage occasionally makes him think about starting again. Hilaria, meanwhile, acknowledged how physically exhausting motherhood had become.

The subject resurfaced in August 2026 when the couple shared a playful Instagram video. Alec asked Hilaria to have another baby, prompting her to swat the camera away and leave. The exchange, reported by People, was presented as a joke rather than a pregnancy announcement.

Hilaria's latest remarks make her current position clearer, but they shouldn't be mistaken for evidence that Alec has announced serious plans for another child.

Ireland Baldwin's pregnancy offers a different kind of family expansion

While Alec and Hilaria appear unlikely to welcome another baby themselves, the Baldwin family is preparing for a new arrival.

Ireland, 31, is expecting her second child with musician André Allen Anjos, professionally known as RAC. The couple announced the pregnancy in May 2026 and already share a daughter, Holland, born in May 2023.

Hilaria also praised Ireland's parenting during her October interview, revealing that the two exchange advice about raising children despite being at very different stages of motherhood.

It's an unusual family dynamic. Alec shares seven children with Hilaria, ranging in age from four to 13, while Ireland, his daughter from his previous marriage to Kim Basinger, is raising a family of her own.

For now, the next addition to the Baldwin family is expected to make Alec a grandfather for the second time, rather than a father for the ninth.
