Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's daughter Vivienne has officially removed her father's surname from her legal name, becoming the fourth of the former couple's six children to make the change through the courts.

The 18-year-old is now legally known as Vivienne Marcheline Jolie after a Los Angeles Superior Court judge approved her petition on Monday, November 2, 2026.

According to court documents obtained by USA Today and People, Judge Virginia Keeny granted the request after no objections were filed.

The court's November 2 order confirmed that the petition had been approved and the decree signed, formally replacing Vivienne's previous legal name, Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt.

Vivienne had already stopped using Pitt's surname

Although the legal change is new, Vivienne's decision to use only her mother's surname publicly dates back more than two years.

In May 2024, she was credited as "Vivienne Jolie" in the Playbill for the Broadway musical The Outsiders, a production she worked on alongside Angelina Jolie.

At the time, the shortened name attracted attention because other members of the family had also begun moving away from the Jolie-Pitt surname.

Vivienne filed her formal petition in July 2026, shortly after celebrating her 18th birthday on July 12. The application described her reasons as "personal" without offering a more detailed public explanation.

That distinction matters: while the court documents establish that Vivienne wanted to change her name, they do not explain her private motivations or the current state of her relationship with her father.

Four of Brad Pitt's six children have now legally dropped his surname

Vivienne's court approval completes a series of legal name changes involving four of Jolie and Pitt's children, although the decisions were made at different times.

Shiloh was the first to complete the process in August 2024, after filing her petition on her 18th birthday. She is now legally known as Shiloh Nouvel Jolie.

Two more changes followed in September 2026. Maddox's petition was approved on September 14, making his legal name Maddox Chivan Jolie. Zahara's request was granted on September 28, changing her name to Zahara Marley Jolie.

Vivienne's November ruling brings the total to four.

The remaining two siblings, Pax and Knox, have not been confirmed to have legally removed Pitt from their surnames. Knox, Vivienne's twin brother, reportedly omitted the name from his high school diploma, but using a different name publicly is not the same as obtaining a legal change.

As TheWrap reported, Pax and Knox are the two children who have not pursued confirmed legal name-change proceedings.

The decision comes a decade after Jolie and Pitt's separation

Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in September 2016, beginning a lengthy legal dispute involving custody and financial matters.

The former couple were declared legally single in 2019, although their divorce was not fully settled until December 2024. A separate legal battle concerning their French winery, Château Miraval, has continued beyond the divorce settlement.

The succession of surname changes has attracted attention because of the family's publicly reported estrangement. However, none of the four legal decisions establishes why each child made their choice, and Vivienne has not publicly provided a detailed explanation for hers.

For Vivienne, the November 2 ruling makes official the name she had already chosen to use publicly: Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.
