After more than 13 years, the wait for Grand Theft Auto VI is almost over. Rockstar Games has confirmed that GTA 6 will launch on Thursday, November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, bringing players back to Vice City for the first time in more than two decades.
With just one month remaining, Rockstar has already opened pre-orders, confirmed the game's pricing and revealed when players can start downloading it. The company also released a new launch trailer on October 15, offering another look at the criminal world awaiting players in the fictional state of Leonida.
But there are several details worth checking before spending your money, including the differences between editions, a surprising change to physical copies and the continuing uncertainty surrounding a PC release.
When is GTA 6 coming out, and when can you download it?
GTA 6 officially launches on November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. That date follows multiple postponements, with Rockstar previously explaining that the additional development time was necessary to deliver the quality players expect.
According to Rockstar's official pre-order announcement, players who purchase the digital version can begin pre-loading the game on November 12, exactly seven days before launch.
Pre-loading allows the game files to be downloaded ahead of release, although the game itself will remain unavailable until its scheduled launch. For anyone hoping to start playing immediately, downloading in advance should eliminate the need to install the entire game on release day.
Rockstar has also confirmed an unusual detail about physical copies: the boxed version contains a digital download code rather than a game disc. These copies are scheduled to become available from November 12 to support pre-loading.
That distinction matters for anyone expecting a traditional physical edition. Buyers should check exactly what their chosen retailer is offering before placing an order.
How much does GTA 6 cost?
Rockstar has confirmed two main editions of Grand Theft Auto VI, and the official prices are now available through console storefronts.
In the UK, the Standard Edition costs £69.99, while the Ultimate Edition is priced at £89.99. US pricing is $79.99 and $99.99 respectively, while European PlayStation listings show prices of €79.99 and €99.99.
The Standard Edition includes the complete base game. The more expensive Ultimate Edition adds exclusive content available throughout Jason and Lucia's story.
According to the official PlayStation Store listing, Ultimate Edition extras include the '95 Grotti Cheetah sports car, exclusive revolvers, personalised weapons, additional clothing and hairstyles, customised vehicles and access to certain special locations and activities.
These extras extend beyond cosmetic changes. Among the exclusive destinations are Rideout Customs, a vehicle modification business, and Electric Fang Tattoo, which offers more than 50 special tattoo designs.
However, players do not have to commit to the Ultimate Edition immediately. Rockstar has confirmed that Standard Edition owners can purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately later.
For buyers primarily interested in the main story, the Standard Edition therefore remains an option without requiring an immediate decision about the additional content.
What is GTA 6 about, and where is it set?
Grand Theft Auto VI takes players to Leonida, Rockstar's fictional interpretation of Florida, with a modern-day Vice City at the centre of its sprawling open world.
Unlike GTA V, which followed Michael, Franklin and Trevor, the new instalment centres on two protagonists: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.
Lucia has recently been released from prison, while Jason has a history involving the military and the criminal underworld. Their lives become increasingly complicated when a seemingly straightforward criminal job goes wrong, pulling them into a much larger conspiracy.
The relationship between the pair forms the heart of the story, with Rockstar presenting their partnership as essential to surviving Leonida's dangerous criminal landscape.
Vice City is only one part of the setting. Rockstar's official screenshots also reveal the Leonida Keys, the wetlands of Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park.
These locations suggest a world designed around contrasting environments, from densely populated urban districts and neon-lit nightlife to coastal waterways, rural communities and wilderness.
Rockstar has also introduced a supporting cast including Jason's friend Cal Hampton, Vice City businessman Boobie Ike, aspiring music executive Dre'Quan Priest and experienced bank robber Raul Bautista.
What new gameplay features have been confirmed?
Rockstar describes GTA 6 as its most expansive and immersive Grand Theft Auto experience yet, although players should distinguish official demonstrations from gameplay rumours circulating online.
The company released a substantial extended preview on August 27, featuring approximately 27 minutes of footage captured from the PlayStation 5 version. It provides a more detailed impression of the game's environments, characters and overall presentation than the original trailers.
The latest launch trailer, published on October 15, places further emphasis on Jason and Lucia's story, accompanied by music from electronic duo Justice.
Rockstar has also been promoting an extensive in-game radio selection and an official soundtrack, with music playing a prominent role in the identity of Leonida.
On PlayStation 5, Sony has confirmed support for DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, Tempest 3D AudioTech and SSD-powered loading. The PlayStation Store also identifies GTA 6 as PS5 Pro Enhanced.
These are confirmed platform features, but they should not be confused with every technical claim made online. Players looking for precise performance specifications should rely on official announcements rather than unverified frame-rate or graphics rumours.
GTA 6 pre-order bonuses and the GTA+ subscription
Players who purchase GTA 6 before November 20 are eligible for the Vintage Vice City Pack, which includes a classic-style vehicle, additional character customisation items and an exclusive weapon pattern.
Digital pre-orders also include one month of GTA+ at no additional cost, subject to the offer's terms and regional availability.
There is one important catch: GTA+ is a recurring subscription. The PlayStation Store specifies that the membership automatically renews at the regular monthly price after the complimentary month unless cancelled.
PlayStation customers must redeem the offer by March 31, 2027. Xbox customers should check their own redemption terms, which differ from those published by Sony.
Anyone pre-ordering purely for the bonuses should therefore consider whether they actually want the subscription once the free period ends.
Will GTA 6 be released on PC, PS4 or Xbox One?
For now, Rockstar has confirmed GTA 6 only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no announced launch version for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
PC players face a less straightforward situation. Rockstar has not officially announced a PC release date, despite speculation that the game could arrive on computers in 2027.
An earlier PC release remains possible, but there is currently no confirmed window that buyers can rely on. Anyone planning to wait for a Steam or other PC release should treat unofficial dates as speculation.
Another unresolved question concerns GTA 6's multiplayer future. Rockstar currently describes the title as a single-player experience and has not provided a confirmed launch schedule for a separate GTA 6 online mode.
That means the inclusion of GTA+ with pre-orders should not be interpreted as confirmation that a new GTA Online experience will be available on November 19.
With the official release date approaching, the immediate choices are now clearer: PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, Standard or Ultimate Edition, and whether to pre-load the digital game on November 12. After 13 years since GTA V first arrived in September 2013, players finally have a concrete launch plan rather than another countdown built entirely on rumours.
