Inde Navarrette is ready to return to the horror film that made her a breakout star. But if Obsession gets a sequel, the actress believes Nikki Freeman's next chapter should confront something the original film left behind: the emotional damage.
Speaking on The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast, Navarrette expressed enthusiasm about reprising her role in Curry Barker's hugely successful supernatural horror film.
"I would totally be open to doing a sequel. Are you kidding me? Who am I to say no?" she said.
Her answer is encouraging for fans hoping to see Nikki again, although no official sequel announcement has been confirmed.
Inde Navarrette has a darker idea for Obsession 2
Rather than imagining another supernatural nightmare, Navarrette focused on what Nikki would experience after surviving the events of the first film.
The actress described her character as someone only beginning to process the trauma of losing control over her own life.
"She's just starting the grief process," Navarrette explained, pointing to the difficulty of understanding experiences that happen entirely beyond someone's control.
It's an intriguing direction for a potential sequel because Obsession isn't simply about a supernatural curse. Beneath its horror premise, the film explores consent, emotional manipulation and the consequences of treating another person's feelings as something that can be controlled.
Nikki's survival doesn't automatically resolve those questions. A second film could explore what happens when the immediate danger ends but the psychological consequences remain.
Why Obsession's success makes a sequel tempting
Released in May 2026, Obsession became one of the year's most remarkable independent horror success stories.
Made for approximately $750,000, Barker's film went on to earn more than $500 million worldwide, turning a relatively inexpensive production into an extraordinary commercial success.
The story follows Bear, played by Michael Johnston, whose wish for Nikki to love him more than anyone else produces terrifying consequences.
Its combination of supernatural horror and an unsettling examination of obsessive relationships helped distinguish it from more conventional genre releases.
With that level of financial success, a follow-up would hardly be surprising. However, strong box-office returns and an enthusiastic leading actress are not the same as an official production commitment.
Will Obsession 2 actually happen?
For now, Navarrette's comments establish one important detail: she would welcome the opportunity to play Nikki again.
They don't establish whether Barker has committed to directing another installment, whether a screenplay exists or when a sequel might reach cinemas.
Navarrette is also entering a new phase of her career, including her upcoming portrayal of Rogue in Marvel's X-Men reboot.
That growing demand could make scheduling another Obsession film more complicated, even if the creative team decides to pursue one.
Still, the actress has already offered a possible starting point for Nikki's next story. Instead of asking how the character survives another nightmare, a sequel could ask how she learns to live after the first one.
