Tyrese Haliburton and Jade Jones are married, at least in the eyes of the state of Indiana, which is the part that tends to matter first on official forms.
The Indiana Pacers point guard and Jones, his girlfriend of seven years, legally wed at an Indianapolis courthouse nearly one year after getting engaged. Jones confirmed the news in an Instagram post shared July 21, posting photos of the couple outside the government building with family and friends.
How the courthouse wedding unfolded
For the low-key legal ceremony, Haliburton kept things simple in a black T-shirt and pants. Jones wore a white cocktail dress and carried a bouquet, giving the courthouse steps just enough bridal energy without pretending the setting was anything other than a courthouse.
Jones summed up the moment with a short caption: “It’s (courthouse) official.”
The post marked the couple’s legal marriage, but not the end of their wedding plans. Haliburton and Jones are still preparing for a larger formal celebration over the July 31 weekend.
A bigger ceremony is still ahead
Haliburton has already been publicly counting down to the next stage. On July 20, Jones shared a recap from their trip to the 2026 World Cup final between Spain and Argentina. Haliburton commented, “2 more weeks we changing that last name.”
Jones has been looking toward that change, too. In April, she described the couple’s anniversary as her “last anniversary as a Jones.”
The milestone has been years in the making. Jones, a former college cheerleader, met Haliburton while they were both student athletes at Iowa State University. Their relationship has since moved from campus life to the NBA spotlight, and now to marriage, with the legal step completed before the bigger celebration.
The wedding comes after a personal loss
The wedding comes during a difficult stretch for Jones. She recently mourned the death of her close friend Makenzi Kern, who died last month during Jones’ bachelorette party from undisclosed health complications.
In a June 17 Instagram post, Jones wrote about how painful it would be to mark her wedding without Kern there.
“I can’t even imagine our wedding day without her there celebrating with us,” Jones wrote. “The day will not be the same without her, but I know she will show us she is there somehow.”
Jones said Kern had supported her and Haliburton “through every chapter,” and made clear that her friend’s presence would remain part of the day, even in absence.
“Kenz will forever live on in my memories, my laughter, my stories, and in the person I am because of her,” she added. “I will never stop laughing about all our memories together.”
For Haliburton and Jones, the courthouse wedding made it official. The ceremony still to come will carry more weight than flowers, outfits, and a new last name.
