Like most films in this day and age, the story of Superman has been told and re-told countless times.

A strange alien baby lands on Earth on a lonely rural American couple’s land, and when he discovers his superhuman powers he sets about protecting everyone from the forces of evil while working at a newspaper.

We know it well.

For the first time now, though, Kal-El’s origin story is getting a horror makeover, from none other than Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn.

That’s right, we’re seeing Superman like never before – as a teenager who uses his powers for evil rather than good.

“What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister,” the film’s official synopsis asks.

With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.”

Check out the new trailer below:

I suppose the citizens of Metropolis were lucky in the first place getting a ‘good’ version of Superman considering he could easily just reduce the city to rubble – maybe this was long overdue.

It’s also a pretty original idea, which is cool, as the trailer sets a unique tone of mixing the well-trodden superhero tale with aspects of a supernatural slasher horror.

People seemed to be enjoying the trailer, and took to Twitter to express their excitement.

Brightburn will be released on 24th May, 2019.

Fingers crossed it’ll be better than ‘Man Of Steel’, which I will admit it looks a LOT like…
