A cafe in Mendocino, California is charging customers who wear face masks in their establishment. Yes, you read that right.

Fiddleheads Cafe is charging people $5 if they wear face coverings while placing their order.

Erm, excuse me, you do know there’s a pandemic happening?

The cafe put a sign in their window announcing the bizarre new rule last week.

Chris Castleman, 34, who is the owner of the cafe told NBC news: “I don’t think $5 to charity is too much to ask from mask-wearing customers who claim to care so much about the community they live in.

“It’s about time that the proponents of these ineffective government measures start paying for the collateral damage they have collectively caused.”

All proceeds (extortions) will be donated to the domestic abuse charity, Project Sanctuary.

After two weeks, a different non-profit will be selected.

Castleman told SFGate: “I’ve been told this whole time that wearing a mask is a small price to pay.

“Some people get shocked by the sign but to see them turn around and get disgusted… when they’re asked to pay $5 [for charity], it’s not in their wheelhouse. It’s not something they’re choosing to do.”

The Mirror reported that the cafe’s Yelp page was temporarily taken down to stop people from leaving reviews.

A neighboring cafe, who requires that customers wear face coverings, has said they have faced the backlash of Castleman’s actions.

Owner Meredith Smith said: “What’s happening is that we’re on the same corner.

“I get a lot of feedback directed at him. They think I’m him, we’re across the street from one another.”

Smith has revealed that she has given up trying to talk to Castleman about the issue after being repeatedly ignored.

If that wasn’t enough lunacy for one day, then get this.

In March, the cafe was offering 50% off to customers who threw their masks in the bin,

And wait, there’s more.

They planned on charging people an additional $5 if they were bragging about getting their Covid-19 vaccinations.

He was forced to close up shop in June last year when authorities told him that wearing a mask was not optional during the pandemic.

“The government shut everything down. Everyone wearing a mask is complicit”, he said.

The latest figures suggest that unvaccinated people in Mendocino County are at high risk of Covid infection.

It is alleged that Castleman will keep the sign up for a few more months.

Is Castleman right, or wrong? Where do you stand?
