With the wildfires in California causing unprecedented amounts of damage to the western state, now would be a perfect time for Donald Trump to try his utmost to empathise with those affected. Hey, he could even help, if he wanted to.

Alas, El Presidenté elected to blame the state of California for their poor forest management, and even went as far as saying that the fires are spreading to such a degree because Californians aren’t raking up stray leaves.

Trump told reporters:

You look at other countries where they do it differently and it’s a whole different story. I was with the President of Finland and he said we are a forest nation. He called it a forest nation.

And they spend a lot of time on raking and cleaning and doing things, and they don’t have any problem.

Since then, however, the president of Finland, Sauli Niinistö, has said that he absolutely doesn’t recall having that conversation with Trump.

Meanwhile, people have pointed out how big the difference in climates between California and Finland is, the latter being much colder with a far fewer dry desert winds.

Furthermore, Fins don’t rake their forests. They do clear the leaves from public parks, but that doesn’t aid in prevention of wildfires.

Something that Finland does do, however, is forest “thinning”, where selected trees are cut down to prevent the risk of fires.

Nonetheless, Fins are taking to Twitter to troll Trump for his raking comments…
