Every single time I see a ‘Game Of Thrones’ related article or news-story, I immediately think it’s the season 8 trailer.
But alas, I’m still waiting for it.
Until now all we’ve really had off HBO is cast members telling us how bittersweet and sad the ending is, as well as small details about the epic battle sequences and general movie-esque episode lengths.
At present, an official runtime hasn’t been confirmed but they’re probably going to be running for 90 minutes and above.
While we’re obviously expecting big things, HBO’s boss has confirmed just how spectacular the final ever season is.
Speaking with Variety at the Golden Globes, HBO chief Richard Plepler said:
“It’s a spectacle. The guys have done six movies. The reaction I had while watching them was, ‘I’m watching a movie”.
He added of showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss:
“They knew the bar was high. They’ve exceeded the bar. I’ve watched them twice without any CGI and I’m in awe. Everybody’s in for an extraordinary treat of storytelling and of magical, magical production.”
This comes after we were given a teeny, weeny tease of the upcoming season during a preview trailer for HBO’s 2019 shows.
In the brief clip, we see Sansa Stark and Daenerys Targaryen finally meet, the former telling her: “Winterfell is yours, Your Grace.”
Speaking about Dany’s familial relation to Jon Snow, Emilia Clarke said:
“Daenerys’ lifelong dream has been to avenge her family and claim her rightful seat on the Iron Throne. She truly loves Jon.”
“Were she to find out about his title, it would cut deep.”
Kit Harington added of Jon’s potential reaction: “Jon is someone who plays by the book. He cannot lie. Finding out about Dany would be very hard for him.”
Game of Thrones season 8 will premiere in April 2019 – prepare to have your world turned upside down.
